Classic Traveller to Come to TAS

Hey everyone,

Wanted to float this past you all...

We are giving serious thought to adding Classic Traveller to the TAS programme - so, publishers would be able to create and sell supplements directly tied to the Classic Traveller rules set.

These will be part of TAS, marked with a variant TAS logo and defined covers (they will look like the original LBBs). This will necessitate the changing of any covers on TAS that are currently a bit too close to the LBB look (we can help publishers with that transition, and will be in touch).

At this time, we would welcome any thoughts and comments anyone would have on this idea.

Great idea! I have several CT fan materials - previously strictly non-commercial under the Fair Use Guidelines - which I can publish nearly immediately under such a license (modern careers, sword & planet careers, fast & dirty vehicle combat system, and even my old fantasy rules for CT from 2006; the first two are already laid out in Word and will take an hour or so each to do proper layout for in Affinity Publisher).

I still hope, though, that strictly free (non-commercial) fan material will still be covered by the Far Use Guidelines, as this affects a significant number of blogs and similar publications.

May I suggest putting a line across the bottom reading 'Classic Traveller'?
This would serve to ease any confusion for people new to This Thing of Ours.
Excellent idea. Some sort of "Approved for GDW Traveller", or "Classic Traveller Rated" icon type-of-thing, near the TAS logo just to inform the purchaser, because shop search filters can be ambiguous at the best of times. (Although, having said that, TAS is currently only available on DriveThru, which has quite good search filters anyway, (even if Print purchases from DriveThru are out of the question, if you live outside US.))

Well, with so many different editions and visions of Traveller, I think that CLEARLY identifying which one is which would serve the new player very well. We don't want to see angry buyers upset that they just dropped $30 on Azhanti High Lighting only to find out that a] it's a board game, b] is completely incompatible with the RPGs and c] it's five editions old.
We're all trying to grow the game and introduce it to a new generation of grogs. It would be wise of us to make it easier for them.

I think the most important thing in that regard would be to clearly distinguish current (Mongoose Traveller) from vintage/retro content.
Within the general category of vintage/retro Traveller, people are likely to know what they are buying or at least will be motivated to inform themselves.

I adore this idea and had been asking for information about this over on COTI just recently! Several new people including myself have recently really fallen in love with Classic Traveller and we have some ideas we’d like to share around for tools and formatting and such, as well as adventures.

I would really love to get to share Classic Traveller adventures we’ve made together via TAS.

Matt, I think that adding CT to the TAS program would be fantastic. I like the idea of some consistency guidelines for the covers to help identify CT content, too.
