Chthonian Stars

I continue to watch and wait, but no word yet.

Given the problems Mongoose had with Secrets of the Ancients I guess it is good that time is being taken to insure a good hard copy for Cthonian Stars.

Ia! Ia! Trib-niggurath! The black tribble of the woods with a thousand young!

That is the most disturbing thing I have read in a long long time. Congratulations!
Now where did I put my Glomer.....

As per my last check, still no word on when we'll see Chthonian Stars will be available POD.

I've sent another couple of emails out with no response.

As per the idea of Star Trek Cthuhlu...love it!

Of course I think Cthuhlu is great win any genre!

I have just sent another email to the contact I have made at Drive-through RPG regarding news on the POD.

I'll post when I hear back...

I reckon it's vapourware. The important thing is not to hold your breath while you are waiting....

The PDF is there, we are just waiting for the POD option to actually go up.

And it's the POD that I'm calling vapourware- along with the rest of the line. They had a last minute cancellation of the Mongoose hardcopies, grudgingly put out the PDF, talked vaguely about remitting the whole thing to a new system and setting called Void and Hastur knows when well see Horrors of the Void- it's as SNAFUed as SNAFU can be!

Chthonian Stars is/was an interesting product with some nice contributions to Traveller.

Frankly though, I have given up on the company entirely. I'm not particularly interested in The Void at all. They produced some exciting and fresh ideas for Traveller and I'm more interested in Traveller than a new and unproven game system.

For whatever the reason, they've fallen out in some fashion or other with two publishers, plus they appear to have no real grasp of staying in contact with their customers.

Given all of the time that has elapsed, it surely wouldn't have been THAT hard to make the PDF available as a POD format. Maybe given the problems they are now hacked off with trying to bring their games to the market, but I'm not feeling much interest in communicating OR in providing product.

Personally I see them as close to flatlining.

It's a shame because I would have loved to have seen this as a whole Traveller product line.

It adds plenty to Traveller as it stands, but I would like to see a POD option, I HATE running games from a PDF!

I imagine they are too busy with Cthulhu Tech or something to give proper attention to this. Especially since they have "day jobs" and are not a full time RPG company like Mongoose.

I received an email from amazon.ca (Not .com) to purchase the book later in January at a discount as I have purchased other MGT books from them. Has anyone else gotten an email from them? I still don't know if the deadtree will be an actual print run or if they just never recieved an update from the publisher.

I have not heard about any such emails nor have I received one.
If I read your message correctly, they are indicating intention to have the book available in January?
That would be very cool if it turned out to be true.

I couldn't agree more with both your points! I think it adds a nice variation and I hate running from a PDF.

I still have not heard back from my last email to Drive-through RPG...

Well, the news from Wildfire posted on their own forums today is that there'll be some more news if we just wait.

Nothing at all about the POD of Chthonian Stars though. The little they have to say relates to CthulhuTech and a mention of The Void.

I bought the pdf via Drivethru recently and have been very impresseed with setting and the book itself (writing, illustrations etc)

It is a good source even if you wish to leave out the cthulhu mythos and run a straight sci fi in the solar system game

I really want a printed copy. I'll called the local Kinkos and they said they wouldn't bind a PDF, even if my name was watermarked on it without a letter from the copyright holders!

This seems extreme!

They might have been burned once before - but Kinko's over the years has gone from the "wild west" of people wholesale entire books and such == to being very careful about copyright.

Vargz- a more reliable source (the DriveThruRPG guy rather than Wildfire) said here-

Looks like I will have to fork out the dough to have it printed myself.
It is in progress. I'm hoping it will be done by the end of the month.

The forum you linked me to seems to predate other data indicating they would still produce a POD. Specifically I had contact with Matthew who stated it wa still a plan to make the Traveller version available as a POD.

That being said, I hold little hope. I'd really love to see this book available...
