Task Chains Supplement for Traveller

Stargrove

Banded Mongoose
This is a repost of the announcement on Reddit that this is now available:

I have completed the Fantasy Grounds module that was discussed HERE over the weekend. So, for those of you who use Fantasy Grounds, the module is available on the Forge for you to use with the Traveller ruleset and there is a copy of the PDF attached to the post in the Traveller Forum on the FGU site: HERE

Obviously, many of you don't use Fantasy Grounds when you play. With that in mind, I am hosting the PDF on a Google Drive for now (it may move later). Link to PDF

This supplement was created for GMs to use as reference and gives them over 400 Task Chains of varying length (2-, 3-, and 4-Rolls) to use during gameplay. It has a table of contents listing all the Categories, and four separate indexes. Three by the number of rolls in a Task Chains (2-, 3-, and 4-Rolls) and a fully alphabetized index of every Task Chain in the book to assist anyone in finding the Task Chains they need at the moment they need it.

I would appreciate any feedback, constructive or otherwise. I had gotten some suggestions for a few other categories in the previous Reddit post about this, but I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work that went into this and was kind of "Task-Chained" out by the time I finished it. I have kept notes on those other categories and if I ever decide to add to this tome, I will start with those.

-----------

This was all released according to the Mongoose Fair Use policy and is free for anyone interested.

Enjoy!

Hi Stargrove. Thank you. I nabbed it for use with my upcoming Virgin MgT campaign for Pirates of Drinax.

Cool! I hope you and your table find it useful.
Stop hoping. LOL - it WILL be useful, if nothing else, by having a library of task chains that help explain processes. As a newbie MgT user, I have to learn the ropes despite game mastering since 1978. All new (to me) systems require practice in running scenarios solo, so as to familiarize myself with the rules. When the curtain goes up for my first game session, I want the experience to be as seamless and seemingly effortless for the players as I can make it. Your Task Chains thing is just what I needed WHEN I needed it. Rest assured, you've made an impact on me before I even run my first game.

Since I'll be running Pirates of Drinax for this crew of gamers online, I'll have to concentrate on the "exciting bits" like combat and ship combat. But as Mav would tell you, I like interactions far more than I do combats. Flying a ship through a sandstorm can be every bit as nervewracking as a combat session. Meeting up with an NPC whose last interaction with a Pirate left her hating someone who could say "enjoy your life, it won't last long" as she lay dying aboard her ship that he just attacked and ruthlessly sacked. Then we have a player character who doesn't really think things out (GURPS TRAVELLER campaign, not the upcoming one!) where he purchased Desert Eagle equivalent guns, then put an insurance round into his former enemy's head. Do you think recovering a slug from the pavement isn't going to lead the authorities to believe it wasn't an execution? The crew almost mutinied when they discovered his arrival back to the ship was recorded by security tapes and he had blood stains on his clothing. Reading the Police Blogs to see if the crew needs to be alert to shifting conditions or criminal activity hot spots (to avoid) - they did find out the police were looking for a perp who used a non-standard bullet from a non-standard gun system. Go figure.

But while I'm comfortable with GURPS, I now need to be able to do the same kind of things using MgT. You've helped immensely there!

By the by, when I saw the Task Chains, it made me think of Megatraveller's task library. Not sure if that was the intent or not.

I have vague recollections of the MegaTraveller rules. Didn't get to play it much back in the day. We mostly stuck to the LBBs. I did like the original MgT books though.

Good luck running Pirates of Drinax. And, don't forget, Session 0 when everyone gets together to go through the character creation process. That is very important and a lot of fun.
