CENTAURI HUNTING PACK: BROKEN?!

katadder said:
not that saying the hunting pack is good but a counter from the narn would be e-mines as squadrons really are not good facing narn.

Should only be able to get 2 ships per emine and if they are on CBD?

also depends on the angles - at maxium range for the emines may struggle to get 2............

Just what I was going to say - Energy Mines were built for squadrons.

I agree with Burger, lots of fleets got "cool" quirky add-ons (my fave ones being for the ISA; the reduction of the White Star beam down to 10"... and "high-power turns" - because the ISA needed help with their manoeuvering!!! How cool is that... )
But the disproportianate bonus that this rule gives to what is - and I don't think i'll get much argument here - already a pretty damn powerful fleet, really is too much!

What use is a tube of one-shot energy mines when your G'Quan has already been destroyed in the first turn by an Elutarian and 5 Demos's?

As per my other post - The G'Quan is very poor, a single EM and that's it - And no crits - Yeah right the Narn have been well looked after!!

Im not bitter - Honest!

Largely QFT

Though to be balanced, it's 2 G'quans vs. 1 Elutarian and 6 Demos?
Second G'quan lines up its boresight (maybe). First only gets its emines. If they're lucky, the Narn will pop the Elutarian (after losing one G'quan in the same turn).

However they will then have divested themselves of their e-mines, only have one ship left, and still have to deal with the 6 or so Demos that've split squadron and are running rings around their lumbering ship.

I guess its more liekly to be a couple of the Narn raid ships with SL emines - (K'tans?), a Var'nic or two. Who would take a G'Quan - seriously!/

even a more balanced 5 pt raid centauri fleet could look like this

Balvarin (+1 Command and its just a great ship)
Elutarian
Demos, Demos
Demos, Demos
Maximus, Demos

Against Narn (or anyone save poss Minbari/Shadows) a Horrific Alpha Strike ability, defensive ability, fighters and base Iniative of 4 means you are quite likely to get first shot in. All ships all stop, First turn kill a ship, second turn repeat..............

It would also work against fast fleets because on turn 2 they can split up as needed.........

Which is where things will start to break down, as the Narn move out of arc, the Balvarin starts to become a liability, etc. . .

Armchair generaling is the right of every wargamer, but let's see some games going!

Hi everyone I would just like to offer an apology to Matt.

I just strongly disagree with this rule and it appears that many other players do.

So Matt I am sorry for implying that you have not properly tested this new rule and I will test it as you have suggested.

I am only a bit bitter about this rule as it is a huge boost for an already powerful race, but as many have said only testing it in a game will reveal how broken it may be.

Ooo - A Challenge!

@ Da Boss - You bring that fleet during the tourney day on the 9th May, I'll bring a comparable Narn fleet and we'll see how long it takes you to win! We can even have a pool to see if it goes beyond the 3rd turn! :)

true true - as soon as I can play I will!

Seriously though I have never had a game in which the Balvarin has been a liability - its just a great all round ship................

Never had a Narn fleet get out of my arc before - esp at the ranges we are talking about - May be able to use terrain to hide behind but otherwise should be vitually impossible.

but as you say need to see it on the table...........

I am working sadly!

you need to come up to us and have some games - we don't get many visitors to our club from other parts :(

maybe we could sort it on the vassel thingy?

Thanks for that Digger! :)

I am not doing a U-turn I still think this rule is broken but I didn't want what I said to appear like a personal attack as this is not how it was meant.

Rule or no rule however - Death to the Centauri dogs the Warrior Caste will prevail!

@ Da Boss, I will PM you with some dates I am free so perhaps we can arrange a game at some stage.

@ Chandler - If you're at the tourney in May, I look forward to seeing your grovelling technique - Always nice to see the Minbari on their knees, exactly where they should be when speaking to a superior race!

Hah!

I think we've discussed this before Digger your spot headed savages are no match for the technology of the Minbari!

Yes I will be there and you shall know defeat...

Arn't you guys both on the side of Order?

ha ha - so your Grand Alliance falls before the Shadows and their Chosen allies..............

Glorious!

@ Digger - sounds good :)

@ Chandler - Yeah Yeah Yeah - Bring it on big boy!

You have more chance of having a crap in the Queen's handbag!

Shooosh! That wasn't me!

If Digger is playing as a Narn then he could be on either side??

And in which case he better hope he's on my side or my Tinashi's will do to his fleet what they did to your Shadows on Sunday Charles! 8)
