Buying Up?

I have seen the Armageddon points breakdown thread and that makes total sense (great post by the way).

1) Can you still purchase higher PL ships the way it indicates on page 2 of the Fleet List book? Ex. I am playing a 5 point Raid. I could purchase a Battle PL ship for 2 of my FA points...correct?

2) Is it still also true you can only purchase 2 levels up?

3) And just for grins, anyone know if this is the same in 2ed?

1) Yes.
2) Yes, well, depending on points.
3) Unknown.

You can purchase up as high as you like, so long as you have the points for it. There is an example in Armageddon - if you have 32 patrol points you could buy an Armageddon-level ship.
