Buying minis advice?

Hey, long time fan of ACTA here. Got a group that's interested, but they've read about the miscasts and problems with the minis for the game and are skittish to spend the $100 because of it.

Do we have a status on the move to Mongoose for production? Should we wait for summer? Any thoughts? Because I'd love to play, but they want ships, not chits.

Any info/help would be very appreciated. Thanks!
 
I have been playing for a very short time and acquired several fleets. For the most part the models are good. Some of the races seem to have more problems than others. My Minbari are really good. The EA have been the one that I have had the most problems with. This is the early years. I have just started a Drazi fleet and they all were good castings. I feel why wait. Noticed that you are in Louisville welcome to the game, I am in the N.Ky. area.
 
Like any issue, you hear more of the bad than the good. The vast majority of my models are in good shape, and I have a couple hundred. Mongoose are very good at replacing mishapen and miscast pieces, seriously, some fleets are absolutely fine, and most ships of most other fleets are, it's just high volume ones that seem to suffer, as their mold gets the most use, so G'Quans, Omega's, Hyperions and Novas can be iffy, but the Avioikis have all been superb.... apart from being a pig to put together ;-)
 
There is the occassional miscast mini. But they'll happily exchange it and refund your postage costs.
Let me give you an example, i have the Minbari Fleet and Re-inforcements boxes and ISA fleet box assembled.
Only one the Victory's was miscast.
So thats one model out of nearly 30.

PS. You definitely need a pin vice to enlarge the holes for the bases, modelling putty to fill in the gaps etc.

Hey also, if you want to save money use EBay! For example, right now i can see the Centauri Fleet box for sale with buy it now for $45 plus $10 shipping within USA.
Thats a retail saving of $45!!!!!!
I bought one at this price from the seller and received within 2 weeks, since i'm in Ireland. :D
The seller also has an Earth alliance Fleet box for $60 including shipping!
 
but don't forget the lovely customs and excise office like to smack you for %50 of the purchase cost in tax for imports...
 
Looks like I'm officially Centauri, because I just bought that fleet box. :)

Well the poort quality of the models has ruined the game for me and I'm selling up. I shall just play with counters untill Mongoose get their act together.

I recommend if you do go out and buy models to try and get them cheap off places like ebay.

thats rather dramatic, did you contact mongoose about your poor models and give them a chance to replace them? was every model poor? you may be the unluckiest model buyer alive... unless you bought nothing but Omegas and Novas!
 
Yeah it was mainly omegas, but the vorchans and g'quand were poor as well.

Unfortunatly I had already put most of the ships together and even painted them. I did contact Mongoose direct regarding teh matter, but they didnt even reply.

Im just so fed up with it all. :((

sadly, the sales@ mongoose adress doesn't seem to get a response at all. I got my duff stuff fixed by Matt and Alex (though I believe Alex is now in the US)
Seriously man, you have 3 VERY popular models, and they do suffer in casting due to so many being made, other ships are much better mostly.
