British light infantry

Mr Evil

Mongoose
ok reading an article in combat magazine i picked up the other day.

will we get british light infantry squads ?

layout is

section comander : SA80A2 with 40mm underslungh grenade launcher

second in comand : SA80A2

these 2 NCO's each command 3 men

3 are armed with a SA80A2 LSW (longer range than a standard SA80 and has a bipod due to heavier barrel can lay down sutained fiore for longer but still uses same rounds and 30 shot mag as a standard SA80A2)

each 4 man half section has a Minimi light machine gun

8th man is armed with a 7.63mm General purpose machin gun (GPM)

this is alot of weapon range and fire power

So MGP can we have these for our Brits please, and while were at can we have some bulldogs for them, as in same magazine it sugests that the bulldog now its had so many upgrades will be used for a long time in its new configeration, that is lighter armed but as heavly armoured apparently as a warrior.

also mag sorta sugested that the MASTIFS we have are just us surplus modles that were produced but not bought, so sold on cheap to the brits.

I think they will be doing basic troops for some of the other countries in Europe before re-visiting the Brits to give them a 2nd infantry choice... (regarding the SAS as special forces not troops)

light infantry can be issued them at 3 to a squad on average, sectioned of to the LSW operators who may swap their lasw for a standard Sa80A2 to save a bit of weight, but the range on the LSW is so mch superior they rarly opt for that.

the squad the brits have in EVO dont represent anything ive seen bar maybe Mechanised, but then each would have the option a Anti tank weapon, and the section leaders would be armed with the underslung grenade launchers.

i have no idea how acurate the load out is the the USMC but the brits do seem a bit of by a long way, the extent you cant realy operate using brit tactics.

the brit section leaders should be armed with the underslung Gls not your squady, as its a NCO weapon or an entire unit option, nothing between.

and please lets have some bulldogs with gpmgs for support.

are there any units all armed with the UGL?

as far as I know it's just one per fireteam.

I thought they where squad attachements, rather than standard equipment. The standard squad being based on fireteams....

Heavier support weapons a different thing, can't find anything to say how they are attached in the British Army, but obviously they are.... Maybe MGP could do a box set of section attachments that give these capabilities to each force.

That's why I'd rather go with an Osprey book or, better yet, pop down to Quantico and ask a Marine there.

I've seen Marine squads toting around anti-tank equipment before, Cordas.

tiss currently, its one to a section as a test bed, but once they have enough stocks there is an option to supplie entire non TA squads with them, but it involves investment in both equipment and training, current use is a test bed toward the training and costeffectivness ive been told, but in 10 years time its quite possable for an entire section to have them, as they fit to the standard SA80A2 but the LSW requires its bipod for effectivness, so it depends on squad makeup realy, but un 10 years time an SA80A2 being used without a GL would be a rare thing if unheard of, bar the tank crews of course.

I have seen Brit Infantry using Javs and the like as well... but thats not standard squad kit I think...

Well, under MERS there's ltalking of a 60mm mortar as part of the standard load-out....

Yup, but hopefully they will bring them into the game. I just hope they keep off-board artillery out of the game.
