BF:EV Mods - Preview

The 23" range hurts my brain. But it's nice to see the stormtroopers represented as worthwhile troops instead of cannon fodder. They seem to have a nice combination of SST and BF:Evo rules. Good stuff.

even if it does go (in the first - or should that be the last? - three films)absolutely 100% against the canonical evidence. Can't hit a barn door at ten paces, standing around in the open yelling "blast them" considered to be good tactics, and "an entire legion of my best troops" as the Emperor said - one of the best unintentionally funny lines in movie history), taken down by a bunch of teddy bears? Sheesh!

btw, are there any Ewok cards? They ought to be pretty scary!

As a friend said to me very recently, "play nice, now".

I've always considered Star Wars to be fantasy, scantily-clad in sci-fi attire. Who knows, maybe the Empire is getting tired of the Wookie winning, eh? :P

Sorry guys, but the movies really didn't do justice to the storm troopers. Heck, the original concept made them light-saber carrying, shield using 'knights'.

The contradictory cannon will just be filed away with the force-bacteria, and Storm Troopers will assume their mantel as 'Scary' sobs.

I think it would be great to have a version where they are like the guys in Star Wars Troops. Now those troopers were cool.

I've been working on Star Wars Evo myself :)

Would suggest you do not use Suppression for the setting - but that is just me!

Really? Why not use supression? The Rebels' forces tend to be made up of militia with some former military, with a seperate force of Special Forces....

It is not the 'feel' you are looking for in science fantasy. You want to keep the units mobile and doing things, rather than cowering (unless, of course, the player puts them in cover and gets them cowering, but you leave it as a choice rather than a rule).

Same reason SST does not use Suppression. Essential for modern combat and 'realistic' sci-fi, not so good for higher-powered settings.

Thi, incidentally, is one of the things Evo can do well - have rules like this as 'plug-ins' for appropriate settings, removing them when not needed but not unbalancing the game system as a whole.

I'll run it past the other guys on the team then.

And that's why I like creating these mods using the Evo system. The stat line is pretty quick to come up with, you can snatch rules from other sources (like armored, tough, etc)....

Yup :)

You'll find the latest generation of the rules (the ones the SRD, Modern Combat and World at War) are even more flexible in this regard - a lot of what was once special rules for units and weapons are now traits, for example. It is up to you whether you include said traits in your mod. . .
