Beyond the Abyss - Groups and Fleet listings

Have to say it was a very entertaining game, very tense until the end.
The result doesn't really represent the game, thought it would be a lot more balanced.

Anyway big thanks to my opponent who was very patient with me as i'm still pretty much of a begginer and best of luck for your last game.

Including LaranosTZ's matches, as I understand now that he is still in,
I have:

EDIT: Updated with Romu and Emperorpenguin's game stated below.
Humbaba, you need to get a few games in, it seems! Lots of uncertainty still in Group B, Group A is still far too early to call...

Just finished a very tight game against Romu. 18-2 to me but once again the points mask how close it really was. His Bimiths tore into my Prefects and the game could easily have gone his way had the Primus taken a bad hit.

yep very nice game again ;)
i'm tired but it was worth it, learned a lot again. Next tourney i'll be unstoppable !

well group 2 has been thrown wide open with Romus Abbai throwing a spanner in the march of Itkovians ISA with an 18-2 victory.

Spanner, saw, hammer... Kitchen sink....

I swear even the debris from his exploding ship was Twin Linked! :)

Good game and Romu is a lot better than he thinks!

Looking forward to my last game.

Itkovian
(Who remains astonished to be at the top of Group 2!)

so no game has been closer than 15-5 points wise? interesting, though it seems the fighting is close just the VPs (especially in Assassination) slew it to look more one sided

Might be useful to check the vp differences a bit after the tournament. If there are results that never get used it's not exactly sensible...(like the draw in early 5th ed FB tournaments where you had to be EXACTLY even in vp's. I don't think anybody actually archieved that...Way too easy to have even 0.5 vp difference :D).

but the vast majority are 17-3 or 20-0.

Which probably says it's too easy to get best results. Basicly turns results into "who won most times".

Tricky things these limits. You don't want too much of invidual results but not too few of others either...

Well that's what a tournament should be about...

Yeah but I think SCALE of victories should be rewarded as well as avoiding total defeat and salvaging as much out of the situation as possible...

If nothing else makes games more realistic as they aren't automaticly to the death and even tactical withdraw becomes realistic possibility rather than just fighting it to death because you have nothing to lose

2 more log files posted to my webpage. Just for reminder:

Thank Czsusk...SOMETHING for them :-)

Have I ever mentioned that's one tricky nickname to remember

Another game, another trashing. Against those Pak's with far too much long range tripple damage weapons to be healthy!

I sorta knew game was doomed when his first round took one nova half-dead and over(and he complained having barely scratched it) and my Omega laser doing less than impressive damage.

He took out one nova, I took ikorta in 3 rounds of laser fire(pathetic), another nova suffered -4 speed and weapons shoot on 4+ at which point I decided to escape with nova atleast.

Stupid me put jump point 3" away from nova with 2" speed...

Didn't matter though. It was blown apart.

I then decided to just get the hell out of there. 1 hermes was crippled(which collapsed jump point) before it could escape but 2 hermes and omega got away.

I didn't even got to finish off badly mauled warbird(3 damage from death) when starfury and 5 thunderbolt squadron didn't do ANYTHING.

That's 2 rerolled dice, 10 dice and 10 AP dice and NOTHING. 5-6 hits would have been realistic expectations but I didn't get even 1...

So all in all my end result was 2 dead Pak fighter and 1 skirmish ship for loss of hermes and 2 nova. Yup yup.

I had my first vasal game with Itkovian today which resulted in a very tightly contested loss for me. Final score 55 to 36 for a 15 to 5 result. My fleet was destroyed and the ISA were reduced to a singel White Star and Blue Star with about 6 crew between them. It was a nail bitter right to the end. Congrats to Itkovian and my respects for using your manuverablity to the fullest - without some lucky crits against you by my Minbari (particularly on one memerable turn) I would not have been able to stay this close. Well done sir!

Humbaba

Thanks, Humbaba has it right the game was on a knife edge until the last couple of turns...

Well I'm done for now, just have to watch and wait and see how the othr games go

Oh and thanks to all my opponents for 4 really enjoyable games

Good Luck

Tneava,

Thanks for the good fight this morning. I think I might have been a little grumpy from lack of sleep. I only got about 4 hours or so last night before we played. I didn't mean for me to sound like I was complaining about the damage to the nova, but I think my math and statistic skills were running really slowly this morning. Next time, more caffene before I play. Figuring a way to get a game in when there is an 8 hour time difference can be a little difficult. Not to mention, I am trying not to annoy the wife by playing when either she is asleep or out. I tend to have a very busy work week schedule. When we started it was 6:15 am local time for me and I had been up since 5am. I apologize if I was a little crass on the Nova damage.

Oh? And I thought _I_ appeared as grumpy :D Constant network freezeouts coupled with 15 minute phone sessions for my dad(I mean you got to wonder...In average day he doesn't get to speak on phone THAT much. Today 2 15 minute long phone calls just when I'm playing tournament game. How's that for bad luck...) which shut down network for a while caused me to have beginnings of good headache.

I didn't mean for me to sound like I was complaining about the damage to the nova,

Well for fairness sake you DID roll lots of bulkhead hits but still made me realise I'm doomed  EA's toughest(?) raid ship half destroyed before they get even into range just like that...Yup yup. And my fleet is awfully dependant on those nova's :-( Without them omega is about as usefull as fish on dry land...One reason I decided to retreat was precicely that without nova's my omega was about as good as useless. Next hermes or two out and I wouldn't be getting any boresighting and without that hermes is useless. Especially against those pak ships.

Figuring a way to get a game in when there is an 8 hour time difference can be a little difficult.

Yup.

I didn't get offended with the nova comment. More like astonished :D Didn't want to sound like I was complaining about that comment or anything like that.

Seriously you weren't problem. More of annoyed at myself but that headache was starting to get bit annoying(which started to cause some serious lapses of concentration. Cases in point: Nova jump point, 2 hermes CAF'ing against ship sure to APTE behind them...Yup yup. Good thinking there Timo! NOT!).

Good game. I enjoyed it apart from the network issues. Can't wait to get reliable broadband(my dad's bit too fond of these internet connections through mobile phone...)

Overall tournament has been one heck of a case of bringing knife to a gunfight. As I said: My fleet is awfully dependant on those nova's to cause damage.

Hermeses are nice initiave sinks but they don't do much damage(compounded against drakh's...). Omega is awfully dependant on heavy laser. Get past that and it won't do much. Nova's bring much needed firepower but short range+slow as hell+hull 5=not good.

Still thinking those lasers should have longer range like 15" or 18". Would also bring it closer to B5 wars feel AND make those lasers have some use. Ah well. Let's see what 2nd ed brings to Nova.
