Best way to add bookmarks to MRQ PDFs?

I bought a load of Mongoose's RuneQuest PDFs before they got pulled from DriveThruRPG.com (thanks Mongoose for the discounted prices!). Alas the majority of PDFs (especially the MRQ1 PDFs) are not bookmarked at all making them very difficult to use.

What is the best way to add my own bookmarks to these PDFs? Is it even possible, or is there any security on the PDFs that will prevent this? What software would I need to get (anything free?) and are there any tips on how to pick up on headings to automatically create bookmarks?

All ideas welcome!

You can also do it with PDF/XChange Viewer http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

Note: You probably will need to unlock the pdf file. I'm not sure about the legality of doing that for your own personal use, but there are some websites that offer a free unlock service.

You can also download a freeware program that will unlock them. I think it's called unlockPDF. It works well.

I use a freeware PDF unlocker but it had a bug in the command prompt script, I'll get the details when I'm back on my laptop.
