Battlefield Evolution related to Battlefield 2/1942/2142?

To me, Battlefield Evolution looks suspiciously like a tabletop miniturized version of the Battlefield 2 game from EA. I'm not worried about copyright infringement, but I just would like to know if the game developers took any of their ideas from it.

I'm also interested in knowing if anyone's come up with scenarios to emulate the game play.

There's no case for that, BF2 is based on the real world, ANY modern war game could then be said to be "based off of BF2". =P

The only copyrights even VAGUELY possibly infringed are those of the manufacturers whose items are mentioned ("Leopard", "Lynx", "Warrior", etc... Court rulings state that american millitary items are public domain as far as usage in this sort of thing, not sure if that extends to all millitary gear. Additionally I doubt they'd given much of a hassle. ;)

Huh? one is a computer game FPS, the other is a table top TBS completely different really apart from the fact that they both have Battlefield in the title and are simulations of battles set in a modernish era.

And they ue the same factions.....and Matt had the scorecard in his sig file forever, adn then all of a sudden we have an idea for battlefield EVo. LOL.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad the game is out. Love it. But let's be honest on where the insperation was from?

He could also have seen BlackHawk down once to often...

I thought I knew that film back to front, I must have missed the Chinese, Europeans, Middle Easterns not to mention Marines in it

Gee you don't think maybe the ultimate inspiration comes from real world events??? You know both Historical events and more current events being extrapolated into the near future :?: :?: :?:

Maybe it was some bad anchovies on a week old pizza :?: :?: :?:

I really do not know myself, but I really would not accuse MGP of stealing the idea from any singular source.

The inclusion of the term Battlefield in the title certainly signifies nothiing in that direction.

Evolution?? Maybe the heirs and assigns of Charles Darwin would have as much a legitimate complaint as anyone else.

Seriously if anyone thought there was a real case for copyrite infringement I am sure something would have been said via attorneys long since.

Everyone is welcome to their own opinions, but this just seems silly to me.

I don't think anyone can claim "copyright issues". But was the conversion of the SST game into a Modern Small Unit Skirmish game inspired by large numbers of hours in front of a computer game? Probably. Are the factions similar? Some of them, but seeing the PLA as a major future combatant force, a coming Euro Union army, an informal Middle Eastern Alliance, and assuming that the USMC would be active in the future... well none of this really requires a crystal ball or much original thought.

So, is it a rip-off? Definately not. Did the video game provide some inspiration? more than likely. Is it some of the best fun you can have with your clothes on? You Betcha!
