Battlefield Evolution Newbie Question

My ten-year-old son and I started playing Battlefield Evolution today--our first time ever. The rules are nice and straightforward--BUT (and it's a big but, as you can see) we can't figure out what each individual's "hit points" are (for lack of a comparable term in the game). Damage dice get rolled and apparently get allocated to individuals....but how do you determine what the individual's total points are to begin with?

Is it connected to the overall unit points on the front right of the card? If so, how are divided between characters.

Sorry to ask such a basic question--but as you might imagine it's a bit of hindrance not to know this basic facet of the game.

Best wishes and thanks for a fun game (or what I think will be one)!

Chris

Units do not have 'hit points' - most will be destroyed by a single hit, while vehicles have a specific rule to let them survive a number of Hits (but not Kills).

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help!

Some follow ups:

So...then what are the weapons' damage rolls for? Do those numbers get taken off of the big number for the unit?

And if someone is hit but not killed (meaning, I assume, that the kill roll number is not matched or exceeded), are there consequences?

If I understand your questions correctly

The weapon damage rolls are to make a number to compare to the hit and/or kill scores to ssee if the model gets hit or killed.

If the model is hit, it gets to roll any saves it may have, if it makes the saves (Armour, etc.) it survives, if not it's dead. Rolling the killscore against a model means it doesn't get saves, it's just plain dead.

Just to clarify, are you playing Battlefied Evolution, or Barttlefield Evolution : World at War?

Thanks so much for the helpful response. We are playing Battlefield Evolution and using the basic rules that come with units.

So, here's what I'm getting from you--let me know if I'm understanding:

The damage roll done at the start of a shoot action is THE roll that you compare to an enemy's "target" number and "kill" number. The only other roll during a shooting action besides the initial damage dice roll is the saving roll (or armor roll).

I think I was confused because the damage rolls seem so high (2D6 or D10+2, for example) compared to the target numbers (average of 4 or so). I was using one D10 for those. Seems like hitting and killing is almost inevitable in some cases with the damage dice as listed. Or do damage dice like 2D6 mean 2 shots, each with a D6 roll?

Also confusing is the mixing of D10 and D6. If I have a weapon that does D10+2 damage, it's gonna kill a person unless I roll a 1, guaranteed. I guess that's how it goes in real war...

Thanks again for all the help. If I'm getting it properly, I'm starting to see that strategy is superimportant in this game because once someone is in sight and in range, you can pretty much take them out!

YEs, cover is your friend in this game.

A quick note on dice roll notation

2D6 means roll 2 6 sided dice and add the numbers together to get your result.

2xD6 means you roll 2 dice but the results are compared seperately to the Target and Kill scores of whoever they hit

And a further comment on weapon strengths, any weapon that rolls a D10 is pretty much an Anti Armour weapon, so yes they will have a devestating effect against infantry

Hope you enjoy the game, which factions do you play?
