I've been wondering about this. MRQ has taken a somewhat retro take to the gamesystem. That bring echoes of the eighties, when almost all gamers were blokes. It feels like all the posters are male, but that's not so easy to tell on the net.

Cue all the Life of Brian quotes

"Are there any women here...?"

:D

I'm a bit sorry about the posts on the other thread being deleted as I thought Burdock wasn't being entirely serious, but didn't make that clear.
And I hope he had his tongue firmly in his cheek. I would rather have an explaination/apology than deletion anyday.

As an adult male I accept that we as men often think with the 'Old Chap' but it is when that is all we do that it becomes dangerous. There are lots of women that I know that I would like to 'do that thing with' but I also see them as witty, intelligent, annoying, supportive and any other attributue that I see in men. In as varying degrees, some more, some less.

Yep, female roleplayers do browse these forums. I'm more involved on the Conan side of things but browse here regularly at the moment because I've just started playing Runequest in our local roleplaying club. First looked at the system in the early eighties but didn't have anyone to play with at that time. So when it was offered in club decided to give it a go.
By the way, we have 4 regular girlies in our club, with 3 other occasional visitors. The last group I played with was 4 women and 2 men. I also play out of club with friends and another girl joins for the Friday game. Incidentally, none of these women seem to read or post on the forums, but prefer to spend their time doing the actual playing, I have no idea why.
I don't understand why posters sometimes seem to think women are a seperate and distinct species, when it comes to roleplaying we just want to enjoy ourselves and have a good game.. Nor do I understand why some posters think that it is only men who are ruled by sexual desires. I call it 'hormones', and they have got me into more trouble than I care to recall if you don't mind. This is a purely personal opinion, usual disclaimers apply.

That's good to hear.

Me neither. Here in Finland I'm used to the situation that RPGers (like people in general) are 50 / 50 split between the genders. I'm often shocked and rather surprised when I run into very gendered attitudes and stereotypes on forums like this.

I guess us nordic types have it good. Women are just people around here, even to roleplayers.

I'm a girlie.
I read these posts.
I like roleplaying with girlies and boys too.
I have girlie friends.
My girlie friends like roleplaying.
My girlie friends do not read these posts or post themselves.
Dunno why.
Some boys say girlies are different to boys.
Me and my girlie friends like fun roleplaying.
Some boys post that they have a little friend who tells them what to do.
Some boys think girlies dont have little friends telling them what to do.

Don't you believe it.

ok?

Yeah, there is often a tendency to create polar opposites out of two objects (boy and girl) that are actually remarkably similair. For example a boy is a lot more similair to a girl than it is to a plastic cup.

Thanks that really, really answered my question.

You seemed to be saying that "Is'nt it great that both men and women can behave badly (isn't it fun!) Look women can be sexist too!"

Read my original post and insert 'fanny' instead of 'old chap'

Hurray for ladettes, no offence.

You forgot the "I can't vote my real opinion because it was left out of this poorly designed poll" option in the poll.

As you say it is what we do that matters.
Women and men aren't that different really, we can both misbehave and get into all sorts of trouble.

I think it just really annoys me that some people put women on some sort of pedestal as if we never get urges to do things we shouldn't.

I don't buy that. :)

As the poll stands, it's 96% male and 3% female. Perhaps the remaining 1% covers said option?

You're saying role-players are 96% male, 3% female and 1% post-operative? Yep, that sounds about right by my experience...
