Anybody got Hawkmoon yet?

I'm currently working on a 160 page campaign, tentatively titled <I>Secrets of Tragic Europe</I>. It's being written in a modular way, so you can pull most of the adventures out and run them as one-shots, or play through them as a linked campaign.

Has anybody in the U.S. received their copy?

I'm in the U.S. and I have indeed picked up a copy...it was from this great shop in Indianapolis...the owner said he'd have to order more copies because his three were now all sold, so that's good news!

I haven't had the chance to ingest the whole book yet but I like what I've read so far. I have some minor layout quibbles but that's nothing special. The book itself seems well contstructed and durable. Reading through it has me very anxious to run some Hawkmoon...even more so to run some Elric which has always been my favorite Moorcock series. I'm also very anxious to pick up Granbretan.

I'm in the US. I picked up my copy from the flgs Tuesday. I'm extremely happy about the book, but I have a quibble about the construction/durability. Both copies at the shop were pulling away from the covers, badly enough that I think after the first read through, the book would drop right out of the cover. I patched mine up and it will last through what will hopefully be years of hard use. :)

I'm sure the switchover to your own press has been frought with peril, and I wanted to let you know about the issue right away.

Cheers, much appreciated.

Our guarantee still holds - if you are unhappy with the quality of any of our books, we will freely replace them for you.

I just got my copy at the flgs in Albuquerque, New Mexico....so if I've got one, then it should be available everywhere in the world, now! :D

I mostly looked forward to this book as an extension of my appreciation for Moorcock, but did not expect to want to actually run it (in fact, except fro an occasional game of Stormbringer as a player, I've never felt compelled to run any of the Chasoium EC adaptations). This book, however, seems eminently accessible, and I loved the introduction and gazetteer sections, they really hit home for me. Of course, I like the new MRQ retooling, and although it didn't seem like the combat system had any further clarification (near as I could tell) about whether an attacker is rolling once or twice on parries and dodges (in fact, from Hawkmoon's rules I'd definitelyc onclude that there are two rolls going on), the rest of it all seems like a sound package, with everything I need to run some cool games in the dark and apocalyptic future of Count Brass and co.

For the question about weapon and armor HP: I might be wrong, but I've been under the impression that the only cases in which equipment takes damage is when it is targeted: i.e. the attacker states, "I am trying to break so-and-so's sword or brestplate or whatever." The rules talk about targeting equipment, but the parrying rules do not mention weapons taking damage, nor does armor take damage after soaking a hit with AP. Soooo.....I don't think it does, though if I were to make a house rule (which I won't, as I am not too keen on dealing with equipment attrition in my fairly cinematic games) it would be the old standard of, "lose 1 HP for every standard parry, or against every hit an armor piece absorbs that exceeds AP." And I'd double it to 2 HPs loss for a critical hit.

Wooo almost forgot to talk about the art, since others have: Unlike the godawful Lankhmar cover (sorry, it's just ugly), I liked the garish and very active cover of Hawkmoon, it really stands out on a game shelf. The art is nice, and the margins busy and different in look from other books out right now. As for the interior....I see nothing I don't like, except maybe for the white-on-grey illos of iconic characters in the series towards the end, but all the other art is very nice indeed.

If this had been my first MRQ package, I would be very happy indeed....as it is, I am even more confident that I want to make this my permanent system of choice for fantasy gaming. Time to put the rest of my D20 books up on ebay....

EDIT: typos, sorry, trying to do this while working (sort of, anyway)

Waylands Forge, in Birmingham, haven't had Hawkmoon for 3 weeks.

The first week they said they'd sold out, the second week they said they couldn't order it but didn't know why, the third week they said that they were awaiting a new print batch from Mongoose.

So, does this mean that Hawkmoon is so popular that it is already sold out? Or does it mean that Mongoose are producing very low print runs? Or does it mean that Mongoose underestimated Hawkmoon's popularity and should have produced a bigger print run?

Or am I just unlucky?

I hope it comes back out before 3rd August .....

My beloved wife surprised me today and returned from Stockholm with a gift for me. A copy of Hawkmoon, Granbretan.

Unfortunately, it too had the curse of the dreaded warped cover, but since its an expensive and hell of a long trip down to the capital, its not worth the effort of traveling all that way just to get a refund.

All the same, its a bit disappointing that the guys at Mongoose haven't resolved this problem yet. In all honesty I wouldn't have purchased it myself, since not only is the front cover warped, but the internal binding has slightly crinkled the pages where they meet the spine.

Still as a surprise present, and based on what I've skimmed so far; I am a happy man! :D

Mongose have offered to replace all badly printed and or damaged covered books.

Email Matthew Sprange on msprange@mongoosepublishing.com to start the ball rolling.

That's excellent news, I'm VERY looking VERY forward to VERY see this VERY book, there's a dangerous lack of adventures out there...

Never look a gift Beast Mask in the mouth. Or anywhere. You could lose limbs... :D

Hi All,

I have just bought the PDF of Hawkmoon and was very pleased, so pleased I ran the game for the Straw Dogs this weekend, Loz, Carl Pates, Colin Driver, John Hutchinson, Nathan and Darren Driver. We were all pleasantly suprised I think, especially as we were the original playtesters for Loz version of the game. Whilst I am always going to be saddened that this was not Loz's Hawkmoon book, I think Gareth did a sterling job and I have decided to run the game again this week with my regular gaming group. So thumbs up to Mongoose.

Well, I went in last week and they had kept a copy back for me, even though I didn't request it. So, I bought it while my wife was on her way to the cinema.

Haven't had much time to digest it yet, but I did spend a couple of hours reading it over the weekend. It looks pretty good to me. I found a few possible typos and errors, but that's standard for any RPG game.

Hopefully, I'll be able to do a review some time, probably not this weekend, though.

Thanks Simon for a cracking game on Sunday! I really enjoyed it. I'll be running a game Mongoose Hawkmoon at Furnace, if anyone is going and is interested.
