An artist with a gritty kind of style

The ship one made me post here. It told me to post here or else it would leave me stranded planet side.

LOL

This artist is supposedly the lead artist for the Fallout MMO game by Interplay.

Very kewl as noted over at the COTI. What I liked most about the Mongoose Traveller was its ability to capture Mood Art. Those ones what were black & white. Such as the original Droyne...when I said, it gave me chills...that was actually a good thing. When the one from the Pocket Traveller replaced it...it sorta looked like some of Rogue Artist's work. Good but not Traveller.

These are SO Traveller...to me...at least IMTU...

or these from the Traveller Magazines...which sported some of the best art IMHO.

So as one can see MTU is quite large and can accomodate a variety of styles but I would say that REALISM dominates over anime and other assorted cartoon charactures.

Promise, I will stop posting art...kafka (your neighbourhood pain in the Traveller artse)

In my Futura game (Science Fiction, huge unvierse) any thing found in Heavy Metal, Epic or anyother graphic magaine could be found in my system.

You might have to hunt around for it, travel to unknown/unexplored parts of the universe, but it was there some where.

Visuals can make a game so much it not funny. Some times mood music can also but unless you are on a set scenario or have the ability to change moods/tracks smoothly, I think it can actually take away from the game.

But a picture sparks and controls the imagination is such away that even if each player looks at it differently they will still be intregued by it .

If i'm being totally honest guys.... i dont think this is at all traveller...

I'm no expert but from the original art and reprinted art over the years that i have seen it has no sort of connection with a gritty style what so ever (as far as gritty goes the artist is very impressive, in terms of the scenes especially)

But unless your talking about the setting and how the Traveller universe looks in your head i would have to strongly disagree on this being at all Traveller esq.

but thats my 2 cents anyway :)

Have you had a chance to look at the art contained Challenge Magazine? Essentially it was a fanzine that "took off" with MT and TNE. Or most supplements/rules past Hard Times. True, these were dark times in the RPG industry dominated by cyberpunk. So, I would favor a style that blends Signal GK with a more active role for adventurers but that would be way too dark. So, while this may not be the T20 vision (although parts of T20 can be very dark) of Traveller, GT or the CT vision...it remains a facet of Traveller.

I can see how this type of representation for the World could be very effective.

Cyberpunk is more up my stream in terms of artistic and creative opportunities but i just didnt see it in the main series of Traveller.

You never know, some of newer material might come with a different artistic feel, lets wait and see :)

I'd rather see this. I did like the art in MT and TNE (and Challenge), but I'd really prefer to see new artists establish a new visual style for Traveller (I really like the updated and shaded ship art in the MGT book, for example. That said, the updated alien artwork was not as good as the art for them in the original printing IMO).

Reread all the old CT adventures. Then go over the Patron section of the rules (any edition), then read the Shadowrun bits about Fixers and "Mr. Johnson".

Traveller has been "cyberpunk" for longer than cyberpunk has been cyberpunk.

Um, do the artists know that you're just linking to their stuff without author credits all over other people's forums?

Just a link shouldn't be an issue, there is no attempt at stealing the work or not giving the artist credit. Nobody is trying to claim anything as their own work. (Not counting the original artist who started the thread).

Hmm, I am not an artist (unless you count deckplans, blueprints and some cartography). And I only linked to the home page of the artist.

So I am not sure what you are referring to.

I even mentioned what that artist was currently working on or working for.

Thanks,

Dave Chase

Almost all of them have the signatures, and several list the author's website.

Not all do. And sometimes people do like to be credited for their work. It's no skin off my nose, but I'm just saying that people need to be careful about just posting links to pictures like this.
