Also fox just sold the rights to aliens and marines to gear box games to make a computer game. I wonder how much it cost them to buy the license.

However, the greedy suits at Fox want an arm and a leg for a license to movie property 20+ years old, and the only company that could afford it choose to use (spit) Clix figures based on the poorest films in the franchise. Brilliant work WizKids!

Hey now, I like the clix figures. And I've heard they licensed AVP because it was the poorest (a.k.a. cheapest) film in the franchise. Although I'm sure the ability to make Predator figures didn't hurt...

Point being, people have been begging for Aliens games ever since the LEG one went under. I'd say Fox is the rate determining step here.

Whats the LEG?

Leading Edge Games. They made an Aliens game at some point, with all the characters from the second movie done up nicely. I've played once at a con, although it might have had some homebrew rules thrown in (we weren't given the rulebook to peruse).

They weren't the world's biggest game company, either. I wonder what changed, that no one can get the rights now.

Yes you can still buy the rights it just take a gaming compony that is willing to pay for the rights. Fox is willing to sell the rights, it just costs $$$

There was an article in S&P a few months back that said that the Aliens/Predator licence was too expensive for a wargame. The collectable aspect of the clicks game probably made it worthwhile.

It was interesting that although LEG had the rights, they couldn't show likenesses of Ripley.

The Horroxclix AVP figures are very nice - reletively cheap - £16-18 for 7 good sized figures - well painted and posed, with a nice map. They are, IMHO better than the Bat Evo ones and have the advantege of being usable with other ranges - the Predators in particular look great vs 40K Imperial guard, as does the Alien Queen!

MINIATURES:
Eh. If I were a gaming company, I wouldn't really want to pay Fox all that money for the license. I mean for f***'s sake, all the movies except for the first two were horrible, and all the good source material you'd need for making a half decent game come from the Dark Horse comics and novels. Best thing to do is just find the LEG minis on eBay, then take the SST rules and change the names of some things and throw in some kind of acid damage rule. Hey, you could even buy the CHAS mini and use it as a Berserker unit.

RPG:
Word of advice on the Aliens RPG from LEG: Even if you find it; DON'T BUY IT!! It's probably the worst game in my collection, its only redeemable feature being the background info. Which isn't even enough reason to purchase it since Michael Tresca's d20 conversion has the exact same info in it. BTW, you can find lots of other goodies on his site, especially if you've got d20 Modern. http://michael.tresca.net

Those are simply beautiful models!

And, I second the post that a supplement or expansion to Starship Troopers could take on the aliens angle. It seems a pretty natural fit.

Try this link for the paper models, the guy was updating his site so it should work now

Will try to get some sharper clear images once the camera's battery finishes charging.

Sounds cool Soulman please let me know when you release the rules.[/img]

I got my other swarm box today. it had a marine with Flame unit and smart gunner mariner. going to do a little conversion with greenstuff on the smartgunner but other then that they are good. got them all based on bases like the first marines.

So once I get them all painted up will have 2 pulse rifle marines 1 flamer unit and one smart gunner for a total of four marines.

going to try and get two more pulse rifle marines but got to first finish modding these guys.

I tried out a game with these guys on their bases and it was a blast playing with painted marines :P

Oh and who pasuuli is TEX?

update :P
Finished second marine and got him glued to his gaming base :)

Oh and the Flame Unit Marine is coming along should have him done in a day. and the smart gunner I am just about done fileing off the mold lines.
