Aircraft attacking ships question

Poi

Mongoose
The rules say only 3 flights may attack per turn. Is this just those which get base to base, ie bombers and dive bombers?

Are torpedo bombers counted, as they stand off 4" IIRC when launching torpedos?

I took it to mean any combination of 3 flights attacking, so you can have 1 torpedo run and 2 dive bombing runs, 3 torp runs, 3 bomb runs, etc.

BS

are you allowed to say place 6 dive bombers in contact with the ship then see how many are left after the AA fire to attack with.

So for example 6 stukas are in base contact with KGV which destroys 2 from AA fire leaving 4 of which 3 may actually attack ?

nice no:)

I take it then you are ruling that any flight in base contact with the ship is considered to be attacking it ?

The rules dont actually say that and if allowed it would help with the fact that aircraft (bombers and TBs ) are under powered vs ships.

Not necessarily. It could be 1 flight of torpedo bombers at 4" and 2 flights of dive bombers in contact. Its all about (IMHO) "airspace management". There's only so much space around aship within which attacking aircraft can operate (and if you read accounts of air strikes on ships its apparent that attacks are generally conducted in a sequential manner rather than "all at the same time".

yes I realise that, I was just thinking it would be a way to "help" ease the fact that bombers/TBs are struggling a bit in their role
