Advice on fighter fleets

Ike

Mongoose
so when we first started playing I originally wanted to be psi corp

mostly because their fighters seemed cool, however no one was being narn and you cant leave the narn out of B5 so I picked them up

as awesome as the narn are (shut up centauri lovers) they failed me in one respect, ive always been a death by a thousand paper cuts kind of guy, which means fighters a fleet carriers, which the narn sadly lack, having no fleet carrier and only bad interceptors

so now we have a guy getting into narn as a secondary fleet, which means I can go get a secondary fleet of my own, focusing in on what I have been sadly missing since we started, awesome fighters

so should I go centauri or earth 3rd age

as awesome as the firebolt is I just cant make myself take a poseiden

so for Earth 3rd im looking at basically
Avengers with Tbolts, couple oracles, and some hyperions(beam)
in larger battles I will start adding omegas

or for centauri
Balvarins, probably with upgraded rutarians
with a mix of corvans and Maximus
in larger battles will probably add Liati's(mostly cause our centauri player has a hate on for them and never uses them)

gaim do not have any fighters, merely missiles that havent armed themselves yet, plus I dont like that the ships primary armarment is photon bombs. not really interesting in playing it

Centauri fighters - superb in all respects

Sentri - excellent dogfighter (+2) and reasonable guns and can act as an interceptor
Razik - wonderful dogfighter (+3)
Rutarian - one of the best in the game, very very good guns, dogfight (+2), hull, stealth and dodge.

Add in a really very good raid level carrier and join the Republic - the best Narn tech is but a stolen shadow of our greatness - also should have in P+P a skimrish level carrier as well :)

Liati - wonderful ship :) sad to look at but thats just a distraction from its power - although just don't get hit!!!

narn shouldnt have a problem dealing with fighters in all honesty.
but anyway if you want lots of fighters I would go EA as most their ships carry fighters (even the humble patrol hermes) on top of having carriers so they actually have alot more fighters than the centauri. at raid you have the nova carries 4 fighters, the explorer carries 6 and the hyperion carries 1 as well as your avenger. the centauri at raid only have the balvarin with fighters although they are getting the amar at skirmish.
battle and war levels the EA tend to outnumber centauri fighters 2-1.

I quite enjoy the EA fighter horde experience. You cannot really go wrong with Starfuries/Thunderbolts.

However, for the big fighter mob you may also want to have a look at the Brakiri fleet. Two swappable fighters - the Falkosi Interceptor and Pikatos Bomber. You also get access to the Riva super-heavy. Carriers start at Skirmish and fleet carriers are available at Raid and War.

The Firebolt, being as expensive as it is merely rates a "meh" as far as I'm concerned.
The White Star Fighter would too, due to its expense if it weren't for the Accurate guns it has.

I actually like the Badger the best out of the EA fighter types.

Of the ones you list, I think EA does fighter swarm best, though I personally am partial to the Centauri. With the new carrier forthcoming in P&P (actually a previous incarnation making a comeback) they should be able to do it even better than now. JMO though.

Cheers, Gary

crusade just cant do the fighter swarm like 3rd age can though as it doesnt have raid carriers

pity one of the various versions of the raid level carrier is not appearing in P+P

Third Age EA is perhaps the way to go. The Centauri have good fighters, but generally don't carry as many as same-PL EA ships. The Brakiri Falkosi is only dogfight +1, so needs Fleet Carriers to go toe-to-toe with many dogfighters and their bomber types are vulnerable to capital ship fire. I wouldn't go for an all-Thunderbolt fighter force as their Dodge 3+ makes them less survivable against normal weapon fire and they're not as capable dogfighters as Starfuries.
