[ACTA:SF] Anyone use any of the new units from FleetUpdate?

Mongoose
I've used the F5W in some playtesting of my scenarios, and frankly the ship rocks.

No longer do you have to close to 4" to do a full powered RX attack - 6-8" works just fine now.

24" disruptors are handy, as is the FH arc. You wouldn't think the FH would make that much difference, and it doesn't when you are on the attack and can choose where to position yourself, but when you have to move first and you don't know where the enemy is likely to go it helps alot.

2 Drones are useful. I kept forgetting that it had a RS/LS Phaser-3 because I am so used to flying the F5. 18 shields, the same as a D7, are handy. Point-wise, I am not sure if it needs changing or not. Above my paygrade.

That's the only new unit I've used so far. What's everyone else's experience so far?

3 E5Ds hanging out with a scout 12 inches behind your screen on IDF can be brutal.

It does sound a bit unpleasant, especially with those 17 strength front shields on a E4 sized hull. :(

I played the Star Tiger at Mongoose towers, and found it to be a very nice piece of kit.
Are you able to give us any quick overview on how it differs from a standard Dreadnought? (Usual disclaimers about stats possibly changing in the final release apply, etc ;))

Well, my Gettysburg and mars have arrived, just not at my uni address :P
So for when my mum posts them/I go back home, how have people found these two for assembly?

It doesn't have as much damage as the Federation class, but has the same shields. It has two less ph-1s, 1 less photon and 1 less drone.

I played one of the other tournament players after winning the final game. He went with Orions (Ok6, Sal, 2 x LR) vs Star Tiger and Wolverine. I played a long game, moving in for alpha strikes and then using Fast plus All Power to Engines to move away, reload and repair shields.

A Fast fleet is for long games, because you get to set the tempo of the engagement, and in a 500 point game like that your opponent simply can't muster the firepower to down the shields on the DNL and inflict serious damage in a turn, which is all he'd get to do it in.

The game ended in my opponent conceding. I'd destroyed both LRs and cripped the Ok^ and SAL in return for losing the Wolverine, the Star Tiger had lost some internals but was still fighting fit and able to destroy the remaining ships at my leisure.

It was almost like playing an X ship, or a slightly heavier armed fast battlecruiser. I won't give the points away except to say that it plus a Wolverine is less than 500.

I would recommend to Federation players putting together a 700 point fleet to go with a Star Tiger, Manta Ray and Wolverine at least once for fun.

Personally I can't wait for the Klingon fast dreadnought, which is like a C7 on steroids.

Sounds exciting! I might have to arrange a megabattle at some point just to have an excuse to use all my fast fleet together (1 Star Tiger (when it arrives), 3 Wolverines and 1 Manta Ray) :)

We used the F5Ws in my convention playtest last night. They performed well, as expected. I think that they will do well vs the Fed DW, though we haven't played that combination yet.

The Klingons get a frigate that packs 4 drones a turn? nice.

this fleet update was a good idea. i need to play some of this to see how it goes....
