ACTA:SF 2nd Edition?

I don't think they'd object too much to at least collecting all of Matt's statements from the forum in one place to have an easy to find place to go for previously discussed rules questions. Making new rules? No. Clarifying existing ones? I wouldn't think there'd be a problem with that.

No, it's not new rules at all, it's just trying to clarify things and create something resembling a community standard of agreed-upon answers to ambiguous situations to cut down on confusion and time-wasting. It's no different from a group of players at a local store coming up with their own house rules for the same purpose, just on a larger scale.

I really hope it's only the complainers who loudly give their opinions on these forums howling they won't play a game until the Perfect Ruleset is issued. I like to think people like me actually enjoy the game even with the few dents that have been fixed with errata and are busy playing the game.
There's an internet saying that I think fits this situation perfectly.

"Haters gonna hate"

IMO that's exactly whats going on and it is a huge diservice to the game and the vast majority of people who want to play. I don't think anyone denies there are minor glitches in the rules, but they are entirely playable and work just fine as they are. I'll welcome a 2nd Ed when it does come, but its not going to stop my enjoying the game (and I do enjoy the game) in the mean time. 8)

I think the game system is great! It's amazingly streamlined, especially considering where SFB is coming from, and pretty fun to play (if you like fleet space battles). It's not easy to write clear and succinct rules that avoid misinterpretation, and Matt -and team- have done a pretty good job on their first go at it. Anyway, the trick is to have the feel of the different races and their ships, the abilities that make them - well, them, and not burden the game with too much other stuff. And keep it fairly balanced (as best as can be figured out). Sure, there are foibles, and people like to hash out some of those finer details, but one thing about human nature is that if somebody finds a flaw, they likely exploit it to their advantage. Like the Kzinti frigate fleets that swamped the game for a while. So rules need to be adjusted accordingly. The rulebook could use more "how to," or "in this situation," or "for example" IMO.

Yes, it would be nice if there was a central place to find rule clarification (such as the errata download) instead of digging through years worth of forum posts (which amazingly, some people know like the back of their hand). Mongoose offers the rulesmasters Q & A, which is a great resource. And this forum seems to have a wealth of helpful and friendly people to assist others. I appreciate that.
