ACTA 2E Questions: Wy did (X) change?

Chosing an generic Admiral restricts your choices of ships and makes that one ship a larger target - escpecially since people are worried that lots of low level ships can destroy bigger ships too easily.

They are an interesting idea and are of course available to all fleets........................ :)

hwoever if you are playing with a mixed fleet of different levels they are often not worth the investment in lost ships

ie 5 pt raid - I normally have 1 battle, 1 raid, 3 skirmish and 2 patrol - if I chose an Admiral - my Battle choice becomes a War level ship.............is that worht it - maybe maybe not...............They may be worth it on fleets who work taking ships of the same level - say 5 raid level or 5 skirmish level.............. :)

Ahem Nope Where do you search an admiral in an All vree Fleet? in the bigest ship but if there are 4 "Big" ships and some small one its like the nut game every atemp to hunt will cost you Ships

Looks like the Admiral rules are a lot of fun :)

I'm not sure i'll use them in casual games but i'll make sure i use them in the campaign i plan to start as soon as i get my 2nd edition books.

I guess the ship with the admiral is the one using all those special rules...

Yeah and i'd feel the need to convert the ship or at the very least paint it differently to show "It's not just a white star, it's the angel of death :p"

One would assume that like everything else in ACTA you would identify it to your opponent.......I have always considered that part of the game.

Some of the other capabilities have nothing to do with the level of ship they are on, but with the level of the fight that has been rolled. Therefore, the benefit is disconnected from the cost (here, I'm referring to the "Lucky" property)

This is something I repeatedly brought up (at least four times) and yet nothing ever changed

Generally though Admirals are fine and are a viable although not overpowered option.

Is it true that the fighter rule are changed complet again?
i heard the move last and shoot first is droped is that true?

From what I understand, the sequence of events is now:

1. Ships Move

2. Fighters Move

3. Anti Fighter Weapons Fire

4. Dogfights Occur

5. Fighters Fire

6. Ships Fire

Some flights already have Antifighter, so engaging them in a dogfight initiates AF fire in and of itself. If the flight(s) survive, a dogfight ensues.

After an long talk with an real Combatpilot i tried some thing in an battle and wonder over wonder it worked. Why shoud i engage an Dogfight if i coud shoot at the other with my fighters from save distance.

We don't even use the dogfight except for a modifier vs dodge, fighters just fire in the same phase as ships in groups of 4. So much easier than the dogfight sequence. Escorting fighters just shoot before anything.
It work brilliantly for us.

Target - so you're just adding the Dogfight score to the dodge score and then rolling the incoming dice? (e.g. Firing has DF 2+, Target has dodge 2+, 3AD hit so the Target rolls vs 4+ for dodge?)

Yeah thats it, bit like armour saves in warhammer.
Means bombers can shoot at ships instead of fighters or both. Makes you choose what you are going to fire. Anti fighter is just -2 to the roll.
Made fighters work a hell of a lot better in our minds. We modded some races fighters like star snake to have +1 dogfight because they are a interceptor type fighter. We only play with Narn, Centauri, EA, Drazi & Minbari so it seems to work with them.
We think it also saves time in those big furballs when EA with Posiedon, Omega & Nova's vs Sharlin & Morshin fights. Way easier to shoot rather work out the modifiers with supporting, where the fleet carrier is. Supporting just means you have more shots making them dodge more.
We will have change the way we do things when 2e gets here.
