4th Edition is coming!

ISTR that the schedule was similar for 3E...

No big deal, there...

You can play with just a PH and MM. Heck, I ran with just the 3E PH and the limited selection in the back of the PH (early 3E PH's had a monsters and GM section, very limited, for converting early, and a set of conversion guidelines in a booklet.). I got the MM, and then the DMG.

I never did bother with a 3/3.5 DM's guide. I found it needless. The core rules are all in the Players handbook, and anything else you need you can sort of create from there.

I honestly see this whole 4.0 Wizards garbage as just that garbage! There are a lot of people who have invested a lot of money into th 3.5 who are now so angry over this that they refuse to give Wizards their hard earned cash anymore. There are also several gaming stores that I know of that are not going to carry 4.0 and will be lucky if they can get the 3.5 product off their wall.

Wizards may have caused some resentment from true role-players. This 4.0 just sounds like RPG meets Playskool and more "hold your hand gaming" from Wizards.

I personally won't have it. I stopped at 3.0 as I found nothing wrong with it personally. Sure it had a few hiccups but they were easily rectified. I wonder how this effects other independant companies that don't have the big bucks and the OGL stuff helped get their business and their product lines off the ground? Does this mean there product becomes obsolete?

Personally I think it is time for companies to step up and create their own systems for games that were OLG for them. Wizards will not get another cent from me. And as I see it RuneQuest has become my alternative to the DnD BS. Mongoose just got my for fantasty genre RPG's. The Slaine RuneQuest book was the calalyst and this 4.0 nonsense sealed the deal.

Does this mean we may see Conan go the RuneQuest route? If so looks like I might have to finally purchase the game. Wizards & Dnd can go to Hell!

I doubt it especially with the new edition just coming out, but it would be nice to RQ Conan!

They have said that the OGL will continue to be used. They will restrict the D20 license, but still allow the OGL.

As to 4E overall, it looks to be a moderately different game from 3.0/3.5...

I resent the idea that it's time for a new edition...

yeah I don't know why they couldn't have waiting atleast another 5 yrs before changing it. I mean 3.0 only had like a year before they went to 3.5 and now it has had a shelf life of what 5 years? So once 4.0 hits shelves I can bet we see a 4.5 not too long after that. I think it just looks bad and causes people to stop getting suckered. However there will always be sheep who will buy every single thing Wizards shovels to them.

I am quite content supporting and giving my money to Mongoose and all the other companies that are not Wizards.

it was longer than that. 3.0 was (checking on ABE) 2000

3.5 was 2003.

It's been 5 years. 3.5 was a bit too soon, IMO, and 4 is probably bit too soon.

However, it might be useful to think of it thusly: 3.5 is lagging. 4.0 will allow them to revise, and rerelease, and might be a better product.

Now, I am waiting on new eds of several games. Some, in anticipation. Others, with dread. In any case, the new system will affect the player base available, and may increase it, may decrease it, or may just switch the editions that are normative.

Anybody heard anything about Battlefield Evo? Is mongoose going to publish anymore stuff (other than downloads in S&P?)

Remember Wizards are responsible for Magic: The Cardboard Crack you can't say they don't know their buisness.

Still its going to be a pain for the Indy scene with all the OGL products out there still running on 3.0. I for one am not changing over Chav: The Knifing to the new ruleset.

There is an rpg called Chav:the Knifing? I've thought of running chavs as a random encounter in D20 modern to replace the goblin knock off in the WOTC book. An entire rpg though, thats dedication. I was thinking a slayers guide to chavs might be stretching the joke too far.
