2E EA Fleet Question

After reading the Forums I have a question for the 2nd ED EA.

Is it right Warlock will be deleted from the standard EA Fleet List and go over to Spec Ops together with the Nemesis and Shadow Omega?

As far as I know, that´s wrong - the Warlock is going to be the EA´s War choice.

Puh, good to know. I just thought I had bought my 2 Warlocks for nothing.

Hopefully the 2nd Ed EA will be as good as now or a bit better.

It's the nemesis that will cross over to Psy Corps

This is the idea I was going for. Lower PLs, more variants, maybe fewer AD or less abilities or something over time, or less hull in later eras. Who knows. Just tossing it out there.

Chris

But thing is ships don't LOSE capabilities just because better ship comes around. They still shoot just as much. New ship just shoots more. Which is represented by newer ship having higher AD on weapons and/or better traits and/or better range. Obviously this means that newer ship also is on bigger priority level as well(it's better. No suprises there).

Superiority of newer ships is shown on stats of newer ships. Not artificially and totally unrealisticly weakening older ships.

That is not correct actually. Historically, sometimes older ships ARE downgraded in capabilities simply because they are obsolete and the capability they offer is not needed anymore. This happens all the time. This is done to reduce costs of operating aging vessels and because while they can no longer fully carry out their old roles in a cost-effective way, the ship itself is still a valuable asset in a new role.

For example: WWII Destroyer escorts. Many of these were former fleet destroyers whose capabilities were downgraded because they were obsolete in the fleet destroyer role. They frequently had boilers removed (reducing speed to about 24 knots from up to 35 or so) and armaments reduced up to and including reducing main gun armaments.

Other examples: USS Wyoming was downgrated from a front-line battleship to a gunnery trainer. She lost most of her armaments in favor of a mixed bag of test bed weapons and radars. She still served in the war but in a downgraded capability from her former life as a front-line battleship. There were plans to transform other old battleships to marine support vessels by removing turrets and adding accomodations for marines.

Some WWI battleships had their entire secondary batteries of casemate guns removed (resulting in a reduction in total firepower) but continued to serve without them into the second world war.

In the 1980s there were plans to convert the Iowa class battleships to marine transport and support vessels or hybrid helicopter carriers with one triple 16 inch turret, again to try to find a cost-effective role for eldely ships.

What I am saying is that it IS possible that later edition Hyperions were reduced in capability as the Marathons came on line to replace them. If the Hyperions were being replaced it is certainly possible that weapons and sensors were simply removed to reduce operating costs or to free them up for other use.

The narn would need a newer fleet (whats that? someone has already developed one? gosh so i have ;-) )

Another idea I like for the Narn would be their equivalent of an "Early Days" fleet. Basically, a mix of Centauri vessels, rebuilt Centauri hulls (I.E. the ships built from leftover frames and packed with weapons and Narn instead of luxuries) with a smattering of the oldest modern Narn designs as the new generation coming on-line.

But that's just me.

(The rebuilds would, in my mental image, have the same general shape as the Centauri vessels, but the harsh Narn lines... Maybe even big open gaps as they didn't take the time to fully enclose portions.

I would like to see an early Narn fleet too, for completeness if nothing else. It should include the ex-Centauri hulls, and the the Rothan, the early T'Loth and Thentus layouts and the T'Rakk or whatever that ship is called and the opriginal Gorith fighters.

Using the reasoning that as you advance you "just add more dice" is a simplistic view

Except it works. One AD represents the ability to do X amount of explosive yield, with traits to repesent any additional special abilities.

I don't agree with that : armour used is limited to 6 and penetration to SAP. And it's a little the same thing for AD. One lone AD,SAP,TD,precise don't behave like 6 AD precise. It can be fixed but it's easier this way.

Standard unit are not physical units and then are relative. One of my old Hard drive used to have a size of 400 now he's only 0.4 : we have gone from MB to GB and will end soon in TB.

We are speaking here of balancing a fleet who are of different point of their evolution. One single ladder can be use for all but we end then with a big ladder, in a game that use only a few value ( Hull 3,4,5,6 ) to be simple then time efficient. Or a relative ladder can balance thing too. Not between era but is it such a drawback that the weakness of early period versus the most advanced is no accurately simulated. They are not mean to fight of one against the over.
Should that mean that ship like Vorchan or Sharlin become stronger against ship that stay the same but have their value reduced because of the scaling ? Well it can be answered positively if you consider that these ships still actively using are efficiently adapting their structure, equipement and acting procedure while the other are taking less care because of the new ships. But the real answer is IMHO because it's easier to play this way and the other way look like beeing too costly for me. I would like to thraw dice throught 4 level ( armor 10 ) to know the number of hit my ship made ( 4 level after stealth, before reroll, interceptor, dodge and critical )
