2300 zombie planet found orbiting the 'Eye of Sauron'

This system is 7.7 parsecs away so well within range of 2300 known space. Where abouts would this be, which arm etc.

Reminds me very much of a terrifying location described in one of the old GURPS Space sourcebooks by Steve Jackson Games... a dead rockball floating inside a nebular cloud. No air, no water, nothing at all... except for the cities. :shock:

Vast cities of fused and scorched rock with empty towers. No way of telling who (or what) built them, or how old they are. Just the sort of place an archaeological team would want to explore. Never mind the nightmares, or the occasional weird 'signals' they pick up on radio channels...

One of the troublesome things in 2300AD is establishing canonically where, at the end of a long series of stutterwarp legs, a system might reside "geographically." Because of its proximity to Tau Ceti and the Eridani worlds, I gather Fomalhaut lies somewhere off the Chinese Arm* (by tugship). Possibly also (??) reachable through Aquila space.

My route, plotted with the help of Celestia (with 2300AD add-on) came up with:
Lasallie 9352. Then, 6.6 lys to
DM-15 6290. Then, 7.9 lys (ouch) to
Fomalhaut.

Yes, it was. Well spotted; it was used by pirates as a rendezvous point on occasion. Only on occasion, because people who waited around on Carcosa for their contact had an ugly habit of disappearing without trace.

Actually it, and Lake Hali, also predates Robert Chambers and was first mentioned by Devil's Dictionary author Ambrose Bierce. It's one of the reasons some HPL scholars think it is more accurate to term his mythos the Hastur Cycle. Has a longer and more robust pedigree.
