Wraith Recon is the new setting from Mongoose Publishing, tailored specifically to the 4e D&D rules. With a full line of support behind it, and the main book due for release on October 1st, it is time to start looking at the brave men and women behind Wraith Recon, and seeing just what it is they risk their lives for!

To this end, we have prepared a Preview from the main book, and a special Introduction to the world of Wraith Recon. Both can be downloaded from;

Yeah - I think this might be my way into 4th Edition. A cross between a spy/commando game and fantasy sounds cool. Really suits the tactical nature of 4th Edition too.

I don't know if it is a reasonable comparison, but the preview feels like Twilight 2000 for 4e, and I loved T2K.

Why wasn´t it done for RQ instead of 4th ed.?

The power levels (especially magic) are not right for RQ - frankly, Wraith Recon always had 4e written all over it :)

I swore I'd not get sucked into 4th edition, but when I saw this I had to swoon.

The military campaign is a DMs dream. No messy "hooks" to get the PCs interest. Their orders come in and they head out. So many missions. Recue the princess, steal the enemy princess, raid enemy supplies, protect your own, take out enemy leader/big monster/wizard/holy man.

One of the gaming guys is going to DM it. I have already started making miniatures for the campaign, though we have no idea which races and classes will be allowed to be "wraiths". (Any hints from the mighty mongooses? errr mongeese?)

Mostly using GW 40K miniatures with fantasy weaponry and heads.

These are still "work in prgress" Will get painted versions up soon. Still trying to find good female figures to convert.

Hooah!

Any of the main PHB races and classes are included in the setting as Wraiths. Also, if you happen to be an old Eberron fan, there is a notation to allow for Shifters and Warforged Wraiths as well (if you have the new Monster Manual). :)

We had already decided one of the enemy needed warforged, but to have them on our side- JOY!

And a shifter "scout" would be beyond cool.

Got to work on a Teilfling guy now too!

OK, so I have a few other fiddly questions which will be answered I am sure when the rule book is in our hot hands (Though since I am not DMing this one I may notget to see it much)

Shields. What sort of shields would a wraith carry? Round, heater, square "riot shield" type? Are there heraldry on WR shileds? Like a unit marker say done in a contrasting color (Like an olive shield with a white death's head or lightening bolt etc)

I would imagine Clerics and Paladins would need to carry holy symbols.
What IS the holy symbol of the predominant faith of Dardarrick?

I would assume that females are on equal footing in the Wraith units? For the sake of my predominantly female gaming group PLEASE let their be no good ol boy "soldiers is fer men" stuff in this!

Sorry for allt he questions but I am rather excited by this premise and have really enjoyed creating miniatures for it and do not want to have to do major mods once I GET the rule book!

That kind of depends on the Wraith, actually. Someone who is likely to be filling a support role will want both hands free for a crossbow or longbow, for instance.

Wraith Recon is a covert organisation that operates outside the scope of the normal military and public knowledge - meaning that if they are wearing open heraldry, it is likely to be part of a disguise. There is a WR badge depending on the Wraith's ranking, but that would be something that they would likely keep private.

I would imagine Clerics and Paladins would need to carry holy symbols.

The predominant faith is the worship of the All Father; a faith based around the defence and protection of the home and family. His symbol is two open hands held out to show a lack of weaponry.

Oh yeah, female soldiers are just fine by Dardarrian standards. Hell, it might actually help your group get anti-Lorn; they are an enemy kingdom that is VERY Patriarchal. :)

Keep the questions coming, folks! Start some threads of your own if you'd like...I am very excited for Wraith Recon to get out in the world (obviously), and I love to talk shop with readers and fans.

Hmmm The All Father-All I can imagine for his holy symbol is the State Farm Logo

Like a Good Deity, the All Father's there.

I am hoping He is not modeled too closely to a real life monotheistic gawd, (And I am not talking about Amun!)

Are there other active good deities in this universe?

It gets real sticky (Or too much like our own world) when followers of the same deity clash and each claim that Gawd is on THEIR side!

A fantasy world deity who takes an active interest in his followers lives would stomp in such warfare pretty quickly I'd think. Not good business sense to have your worshippers killing each other; doing the enemies work for them!

Is there maybe a "saint" for soldiers becaause worshipping a peace loving protector god can get real heritical when you have to be doing wetwork behind enemy lines.

Maybe "St Serena, patron Saint of Soldiers and guards"? AF always sent her to keep watch on those whose choices put them in the line of violence to protect others.

What about evil deities? Demons?

And where do Dragons fit in?

I hope the answer is not "Wait until the book comes out" Tease us!

He is totally okay with other gods, as he was kind of their leader before mortals took centre stage. Followers of the All Father might have their prejudices toward other faiths, but he also teaches defence over offence.

Yes on both accounts.

And where do Dragons fit in?

They are sort of the WR equivalent of nukes. They exist, although rare, and nobody dares use them in warfare due to the amount of collateral damage they cause. But there are definitely rumours about their use being on the rise...

Tease us!

I have never been against a good promo-spoiler now and again!
;)
