Wraith Recon, and 4e, what is it and what is the GSL?

Not higher than 1st level...but definitely equipped with some of the best state of the art "tactica arcana". :)

Hmm actually seems quite interesting idea - but then it seems strange to give state of the art magi Tech to recruits who at best have just passed basic training?

Shouldn't they be veterans / have elite training like real Special Forces?

I'll keep an eye on it as I lilke the idea - although I dislike the D20 system. if there is a lot of fluff etc may pick it up (like I did with much of the Conan line) if its mostly stats and clases I will not.

:)

There is only so much you can do with the new 4ed GSL. Character Creation is one of the untouchable points you cannot alter. We can add gear and such to them, but the "how to make a player character" must stay the same.

Not to mention, we are trying for a pick up and play feel to the game as well.

But, I did make sure to include a sidebar that talks about using more experienced characters. So, it is kinda up to your GM. :)

So, there will be for instance clerics in a team to patch them up? I mean the class will still be called a cleric not medic for example?

Not that it's a biggie, I am just curious :)

What comes to giving magi tech to 1st level characters (that I would also call just recruits or rookies) I would say that it depends on how common that tech is. If they are rare, I agree that it sounds a bit odd (with the knowledge I have now, which isn't too much). But if magi tech weapons etc. are pretty common then why not?

If I am not mistaken some pretty serious tech is given to soldiers today who have just passed their basic training and sent to Iraq. I am not going to argue should they be portrayed as 1st level characters or something higher because Wraith Recon is 'just' a game and leveling up is pretty important in a D&D and games that use it as a base.

Anyway, I will probably get the book when it arrives here barring any financial problems :P

Alternatively, 1st level could be taken as the base point for special forces, and stuff expands from there. This would make more sense to me than forcing the players to start out as raw recruits. After all, 4e seems to have moved the PC power level up from where it was in earlier editions.

That would make sense if the power level really is higher than previously. What about the opposition? Has their power also been upped (thus negating the higher power level of PCs) or has that stayed the same?

I guess the power level of monsters is pretty easy to keep balanced (to lower level) but what about other sentients? I am pretty sure that 1st level human fighter NPC is pretty much as powerful as 1st level human fighter PC :P Or am I wrong?

I think with the minion rules, you have bad guys who are equal to the PCs, some can be higher and some can be "mooks" or cannon fodder. I'm interested in this game.
