Would you like to see more types of Stellar Debris?
Different types of Nebula's with different effects?
Black holes, pulsars ,space-time rifts all with unque gaming effects? :)

If you have any ideas for such effects, please post :)

Black Holes?

You do realise that even the possibilty of a 'Tiny Black Hole', will more than likely dominate the entire game to the point that most Admirals are just not going to bother risking his fleet even near it. These are collapsed Suns, or super large objects that could influence space and time across many 'tables'!

Ok, so a possible rule for Black holes: Stay the hell away from them!

A minor point that alot of people dont realise is that overall gravitational pull of a star doesnt actually increase as it becomes a black hole at a distance. The mass of the object is the same its just alot more compressesd. If our sun was to suddenly compress to a black hole the orbit of the earth wouldnt change at all (that is to say if our sun magically collapsed into a black hole without any other acompanying effect like novae etc).

Of course as you get closer to a black hole the gravity is MUCH higher as all that mass is compressed into such a tiny space but from a DISTANCE its no more dangerous than the original star.

Frankly in terms of game rules NO B5 ship should be able to get that close to ANY star, black hole or not.

But I digress... I dont think we really need any more 'terrain' rules as theres plenty at the moment and I personally dont want to see the game bogged down with a mass of fancy special rules. For me ACTA's best feature is its inherent simplicity.

I think more terrain types is a great idea. Maybe different types of asteroids, clouds, fields, nebulae. They all look pretty and add to the game a great deal.

Actually I tell you one idea that would be REALLY great (maybe for the 2nd Ed box set?) is some terrain COUNTERS. Sure its easy enough to make your own but it would be nice to have some premade planet templates etc like you get with Battlefleet Gothic.

For that matter how about a moulded range of 3d terrain? Again its not essential and theres certainly plenty of others avaialble for sale (and you can of course make your own if your not as lazy as me :P) but it would still be cool I think :D

Since black holes are so dangerous they could be useful to an out-numbered fleet.
Use the black hole counter to protect a flank.
Consequences of moving onto the black hole counter?
Destruction? Except Ancients?
Useful for the Brakiri with their Gravitic Shifter :)

Can anybody remember any specific Nebulae in B5 and its effects?

How about an asteroid field which contains mines? Placed in ancient times by unknown parties?

What about a nubula/gas cloud that does damage to a ship if you stay in it for too long. I seem to remember something like this from an episode of SG1. I think the Promethius was stuck in it or something. (It has been ages since I saw the episode) A cloud like that could be quite nasty in ACTA as the ships don't have shields. If you knew what it was you would have to consider carefully the benifits before entering. Or you could have it as a random supprize. Eg when a ship enters a dust cloud to hide, roll a dice, and on a six it's not a harmless dust cloud after all. It doesn't have to be an acidic suprise, the cloud could be made up of explosive gas that gets ignited by the engines of the first ship to move through it.

I like the idea of new stella debris, just not sure what it should be or how it would work. As has been pointed out neither Stars of Black holes are really possible as they would just destroy anything on the same table as them.

Maybe some rules for Oort clouds - The entire table is a mixed asteroid field and dust cloud, with areas split into each...

I was chatting to a mate during a game and we decided the next game (still to be played) would be on a table that has 'rocks' as if we were fighting in a astroid field. Only difference was that they were all moving across the table a certain range at the end of each turn.

WOuld make for intersteing play as you suddenly realise that you have a choose...move your ship one direction and end up in the fire arc of an enemy ship or move in the opposite direction and risk being hit by an astroid when it moves at the end of the turn. Just think of the fun I will have when I have my Brakiri fleet

Would be entertaining if nothing else.

The Space time rift is in Sky full of stars

Had forgotton about those SQ, there a few nice things on page 196 of SFOS.

Maybe they could be moved in 2e and put into the stella debris section. You could also add the Space Ship Grave Yard into the list....

Great idea... Stella debris... an area of space where an EA ship has dumped its waste. Beer cans cause magnetic interferance, all ships gain stealth 2+ and bottles cause reflections, beam weapons have a 10% chance of being reflected back to firing ship ;)

Yup, there also might be some pissed chavs knocking about acting as boarding parties as well..... used the wrong door when they went to the lav and are now out for revenge stoked up on wife beater.

Beer cans cause drunk driving so ships near them randomises direction for movment

How about fields of wreckage? Even ships that get blown to smithereens will have some intact parts so owning and harvesting a wreckage field could give you valuable stuff. Especially if it's First One wreckage.

Not to mention Time dilation, radiation, moving asteroid fields, and light bending effects of hole. Thats before we go on to whether the black hole was feeding, or in a 'quiet period'. Another point, is that Binary star systems are quite common, so you will more than likely have the black hole syphoning off the other suns corona
