Obviously, I'm a big fan of the Core and see it as a vibrant setting. If Third Imperium didn't bring folks on board, I hope Singularity will. It heavily adds lore and depth to the sector. I'd love to develop a comic series in the Core, showing some of the politics there among other things.

would love to see it and really... REALLY looking forward to Singularity. Your obvious enthusiasm for it is quite infectious. Even if it had nothing to do with Core and was set elsewhere, from the little you've been able to say about it, I'd be excited. It really sounds like a a doozy.

in fact so much so.. I watched the Mayday 2023 interview video you did with CyborgPrime today and found your comments about the Vargr to seem mirror my own. Why I gave them a vote in your poll here. It really would be great to see that coreward region and the Extents get some Mongoose love, be it comics, campaigns, or sector source books. Anything really will be more than we seem to have got to this point and sweet sweet water for these so very parched Vargr loving lips..

On the actual topic, I would like to see more about the Vargr corsairs and Ihatei because that's an opportunity to get beyond the stereotypes and actually explore how those characters behave. Particularly how they are different from humans doing the same thing. That would interest me a lot.

I enjoy reading military sci fi and cyberpunk but I'm not thinking there's much about those things that would be distinctively Traveller or uniquely Charted Space. And, frankly, there's no lack of such to read.
I agree that we have plenty of military stuff to chew on, but with the 5th FW kicking off that'll be on everyone's mind. That was one reason why I was thinking a book focusing on a mercenary unit off on one of the 'sidebar' campaigns.
A comic devoted to the IN would be good too, but I think I'd prefer one based on the smaller ships. High Guard has given us two Destroyer Escorts as examples and a convoy escort series would be good... rather like CS Forester's WWII convoy novels

Something else to consider is a comic series focusing on the cultures of the Imperium... one that digs into Vilani culture or Zhodani culture.
Or for that matter any of the minor race cultures of Humaniti... Who were the Lancians and why do they have a Cultural Region? Or the Geonee, or Syleans, or Luriani or... There's a lot of conflict [aka 'story potential'] in keeping the Imperium sewn together with all these different social and cultural agendas cross-cutting each other.

yeah another great subject for comics or more.. the Vilani and Lancians (why do they anyway??) are one of the things, perhaps even more than the Vargr I really can't wait for Mongoose to get deeper into. Especially with how vitally important the Vilani are to the setting. I'd just love to have as 'characteristics' for them as PC's as we get with pretty much every Traveller race. The presentation of the Syleans in fact was one of favorite parts of the Third Imperium book. And made up a few characters based on how the book presented them.

fingers crossed for someday perhaps getting a Vland sector book if any or all DGP copyright issues can be worked out from the past which seems part of the reason we haven't seen one. At least from what I've read the OldeTravellerTimers say.

The DGP license issues have been mostly settled, as I understand it.
And, speaking as an OldeTravellerTimer and collector, a large proportion of their writing has made it into Mongoose Traveller. For example, a high percentage of what Mongoose has had to say about the Vilani was in DGP's Vilani and Vargr. Another great source for Vilani information is GURPS Traveller The Interstellar Wars.

Really? Can you elaborate?

I think he might be right... I raised this, this newbie's view of the glaring absence of the Vilani/Vland (vital history and still today premier place in the 3rd Imperium setting) in Mongoose's material. in another thread and recall Matt responded to me that covering the Vilani was on Mongoose's plate. Correct me (Matt) if I mis-remembered..

but if so.. yeah perhaps it has been resolved

I'm told that the rights-holder to the DGP properties has allowed publishing of most of the content of DGP's catalogue, but does not want to release the rights to reprints.
So an agreement was reached wherein aspects of DGP's writing has been introduced into Mongoose's books. For example, the Rok Thokken subrace of Vargr was a wholly DGP creation but it is one of Mongoose's subraces in Aliens of Charted Space 1. There are many other examples.
And again, I'd look at the GURPS Traveller The Interstellar Wars for an EXCELLENT discussion of Vilani culture at the time of the Terran contact. It pairs well with Vilani and Vargr [if you happen to have that one].

thanks.... I have a real strong interest in the Vilani, (past and present). In between playing catching up with Mongoose Traveller I've been selectively scouting and pouncing upon secondary market copies of previous edition (source) books of interest. Sort of proud of myself I had the patience to wait for a $20 copy of MT's SOP in excellent condition to fall into my lap lol.

That Vilani-Vargr book was the 2nd I got (Gurps Far Trader the first) but hadn't thought to get that book. Putting that on the list. Sounds like i need to get that one!

You can download it from SJGames and save yourself some bookshelf space.

thanks but very much old school, I love books.. and really can't do PDF's. Pretty much printed out the entirety of Bounty Hunter and the SOM just so I could flip pages and not stare at a monitor haha. My wife has tried to get me to try Kindle for years but always showed her the hand. Hurts the eyes plus spend all day on a computer anyway. Just love having physical copies and reading them.

Brilliant idea. A mini-series featuring Research Station Gamma and Twilight's Peak, for example.
I'm not sure Exit Visa would be very fun. Maybe an abbreviated version of it.

But the Lady in White Robes was a fun Patron Encounter and Shadows is a Dungeon Crawl.

I bet those two would work as comics, too.

Something I feel has been largely under-explored in Traveller is the original pivotal inspiration for the game and setting as a whole: Dumarest of Terra.

I think a story following a low-SOC character that ends up getting embroiled in plots involving local nobility and powerful figures as a cheap muscle-for-hire is the perfect sort of framing device for a serialised format (I mean... just look at how many Dumarest novelettes there are)!
It'd also help show by example that, just because the player characters don't own a starship of their own, it doesn't mean they can't have incredibly exciting adventures.

Alternatively, still following the show-by-example mentality, I agree with Vormaerin that an Aslan- or Vargr-centric story would likely be very interesting. It'd give players wishing to play aliens a better feel of what the aliens actually behave like under normal temperature and pressure conditions, which is something I myself have found lacking in published materials. The small stories in Dogs & Cogs Vargr & Vilani and Cats & Rats Aslan & Solomani by Digest Group Publications were real eye-openers when I read them, and made me realise how much their absence was felt.
Having comics fill this role would be a very smart move, methinks, and I trust Chris to be able to do the aliens and their psyches right!

I voted "other" because while I'd like to see stories involving these two, I'd prefer that they not fixate on ihatei/corsairs - give us a look at their cultures beyond those two tropes.

The people have spoken, and I like it! Vargr Corsairs was the number-one vote getter and we shall deliver. In Traveller comics phase 2, you shall see the story of Tsolveez Irzazda, the Kedzudhi corsair captain who failed to take the Slowhand in Far Trader #1. The villain becomes protagonist as our beleaguered captain must find a way to survive and then recover from the events of Far Trader.

It'll be a while before we get to this story, but I'm excited to tell you all that I just got word that we will be renewing our contract with Markosia next year, so lots more Traveller comics will be coming your way. We will strive to tell you some great stories and to continue to improve our craft as we go.

If you can capture the inter-pack dynamics and the constant struggle to maintain your Charisma when you're head of the pack, in a Game-of-Thrones-ish manner, I'm sold on it.

I always thought of it more like the mahen'do'sat concept of Momentum. It's sfik you get knifed in the back when you lose.

yeah for the Vargr. Perhaps the start of something great. More Mongoose focus on the Vargr and the coreward regions of charted space.

Big congrats on the great news. Well earned. You won me over as a fan of your works. Happy to see I wasn't the only one!
