worst modelling based injury competition, post yours.

A Vanguard - the Merc one Ashlynn uses. A mate of mine asked me to put his together, but goddamn if the basic pose doesn't suck to hell. I changed one leg to a striding pose, left the other intact (save removing the peg) and just placed it at about 45 degrees to how it should have gone so it's in a walking/running pose. I put the halberd down perpendicular to the torso so it looks like the 'jack's getting ready to impale someone on it

I sliced open my left first finger with a scalpel whilst trimming the flash of the bottom of a 25mm Minifigs French Napoleonic infantry mans base. The scar runs across two joints I still don’t have proper feeling in the area and that day I found out that live bone is a really cute shade of pale blue that was done 25 years ago.

Slipping whilst cutting on my thigh and putting a Stanley knife into my leg through the craft cutting mat I was using through my trousers. These became my modelling trousers and I was proud to point out to the squeamish the matching hole and scar

Of course the worst accident I ever had was taking that urinary catheter out.....

There are sensitive souls like LBH about so I will save that one till latter

week before Xmas I was making some rather snazzy detachable bases for my Centauri using brass and aluminium rod.

I'm using a hand drill cos it give me more control than an electric one.
The drill bit I'm using keeps on slipping so I really tightened up the grip as much as I could. Do the drilling I need and go to change the drill bit.

it won't undo. So I've got the hand drill gripped between my knees and I'm trying to loosen the grip to get the drill bit out. My right hand slips and my right forefinger gets jammed between the disc of the handle and the cog it turns on the mainshaft of the drill.

yes it hurt like hell and it took 5 minutes to get my finger out.

I chopped a good 2/3" off the front of one finger while trying to saw through some Vostroyan miniatures. Had to go to the hospital.

Man thats some terrible stories, I could feel my hands clenching as I read them... Ive managed to avoid any major blood loss modelling so far, worst ive managed was trying to blow the extra super glue out of the armpit on my old ork warboss and having it splat onto my mouth sticking my lips together.

I once sliced my finger open working on some Blood Angels, no I was not adding my own blood to better the chances of my die rolling to go from all ones to sixes, but in my furry of anger, pain, and bleeding I remembered something I saw on a surgery Discovery show. I just simply took my liquid crazy glue and sealed my wound shut. Its the same stuff. I even checked with my mother who is a technician in surgery.

Not grand but I thought it was pretty quick thinking on my part. :)

-OTSK (how to stab and heal oneself)

Whiskey + glue + cigarette + spray paint. I was smoking at the time, (dont anymore. whoo!) I was black priming models, and my pray hit my cherry, which sparked for some reason, and made a mini flame thrower, singed my beard (noinjury thank god, but frightening)

I did this one once to blackened my space wolf and lit up the dining room table

My glue bottle exploded. My hand was stouck together for a while, but after soaking it in warm water for like and hour it finaly just like crumbled off. But it still wasnt fun. like, at all.

I have a terrible habit of putting 1" cuts down the front of my right thumb with an x-acto. It's been a few weeks since I last did it, mainly because I've been doing more painting than assembling lately.

Wow, I feel like I should post booklets on blade safety to everyone. The worst I've ever managed to do (apart from glueing thumb, forefinger, and vampire, into one solid mass) was get drunk and go to undercoat some models chaos black. I was too drunk to notice that I had the nossil around the wrong way and sprayed myself in the face. Looked like I was trying out for the black and white minstrals.

I've followed this thread for a while now and it does amuse me!

You know I've been doing this modelling lark for about ten years now, most of those in a professional capacity...
I have never cut, stabbed, drilled or superglued myself at any time.

Kind of tells it's own story doesn't it

Not modelling related, but I have two neat little scars, one on my little finger and one on my index finger that ine up. I was making some fresh guacamole and had sliced the Avacado in half, with the pit still whole (if you leave them in the mix it stops it gowing brown). I held the half avacado in my left hand and decided to whack the blade of the knife into the pit to lever it out. I like my knives sharp. The blade went straight through the pit, the avacado and into my hand, thunking into my little finger and index finger where they were holding the avacado. Bled and bled and bled - apparently there is an anticoagulant in avacado.

Anyway, I mentioned this to a doctor friend of mine, who siad it was a common injury. When he was a student working in Cambridge (quite a well to do area) he saw it loads. He then moved to Salford (very much less than a well to do area) and on the first night in casualty he saw the same thing again. He said to the rough looking chap with the cut hand "Cutting an avacado, were we?" and the guy looked at him like he was mad and replied "No, prizing apart frozen burgers with a stanley knife".
