World at War

Hi,

I have two questions:-

1. Where can I find online reviews for World at War? I'm not sure if its the right game for me (I currently play B5 : CTA)

2. Is it possible to play it on a flat 6"x4" surface using cardboard counters instead of miniatures?

TIA

@ 1 - Check Richs good review... :D
@ 2 - Totally possible and up to you. Visiually unappealing but very affordable...

Have you considered 1/72 plastics?
For £15 you could get 50 troops, 4 tanks.
:)

Might be good for all of us to know who makes hard plastic figures. Soft plastics are suitable for dioramas but have a tendency to flake if handled too much.

All you need to know about plastic soldiers 1/72.

Also i've lots of 1/72 painted plastics.
Give them a varnish and treat them with respect and the flaking issue is greatly minimised.
:)

If you do want to do the counters, just find photos of ww2 units and print them out. Laminate for extra bonus.

But that might work better for a larger scale game like Crossfire or Command Decision

Hard plastics - Valiant multipose - superb figures for those starting out - will not match in with other plastic figures though. They do though go great with the diecast armour which is around.

Are there any pictures of those Valiant figures next to figures from other brands? Would it work to mix them in with other brands and just call them the "tall guys" in the unit?

Sorry have no pic, but I sold my Valiant minis after seeing them besides "normal" 1/72 / 20mm minis!
It is a shame since the Valiant minis are just gorgeous!
But since their range is so small I can only wait until it is possible to do a whole army with them...

The next downside is the fact that they are real 25mm minis which puts them in the same "effort" category as true 28/30mm minis.

So for me it is either true 1/72 or heroic 28mm...

I have seen the mention of the use of counters in miniature games before and it always leaves me scratching my head. I am a big fan of counters myself....in board games. I started out in Avalon Hill games full of counters. I just don't see the fun playing a miniature game without....the miniatures.Leave the counters for the board games, you will have more fun!

Don't mind me, was just thinking out loud! Now back to the post!LOL!

They definately will not mix - but perfect to start of with if NWE late war is the aim - esp now with the US troops out and the panzer grens soon :-)

They are way smaller than any '25mm' that we are used to though but I know what Agis means.
