Will the "new" Battlefield Evolution be pre-painte

Mongoose
I read through the State of Mongoose about Battlefield and as i read it when BfEvo is rereleased it will be metal and not prepainted plastic? Is this the way it's going? I always had hope for Battlefield Evolutions resurrection but if this is the way it's going to stay dead in my gaming group unfortunatly. The very thing that drove us to BFEVO was the prepainted plastic (and great rules) since you didn't have to spend more time gluing and painting that you did playing...

Is the future of Evo metallic?

Unfortunately, yes.... at least temporarily. Based on estimates it will be at least 2009 for prepaints.

Emphasis added to the official announcement:
In conjunction with our partner-to-be, we have a two phase plan for these games. The first is to produce games strictly for the hobby games market – the majority of the miniatures will be bare metal, you will be building your own terrain, and the rules will have plenty of ‘bite’ for veteran gamers. In short, ‘traditional’ wargames. Phase two will leverage the strengths of our partner-to-be to produce a mass market pre-paint series of games, complete with starter sets and booster packs of new units – everything we envisioned for Battlefield Evolution, but with a far, far wider reach. That will come later.

Thats what drove me to the game as well, I just didnt have the time to paint for another game, but all is not lost the is a light at the end of the tunnel though it is a bit of a long tunnel.

I agree, pre-painted is what got me into this game. I will not be buying anymore of the Mongoose Publishing excuses or dead end games that they sell with no intent to fully support. I have stood buy them as a cheerleader for the entire year and talked to them at Origins and Gencon and bought into their false stories, but this is the end. IF I WANTED TO PAINT MINIS I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT OTHERS THAT ARE OUT AND HAVE BEEN OUT FOR SOME TIME - BEFORE THEM.
:x

Meh, pricey, the rules take time to get used to, and there's math involved if you're playing the full version. Plus, it's made by the French.

No more pricey than EVO or SST. Figs are prepainted and for the most part are really cool models. Rules may take alittle getting used to but no more than players that switch over to SST or EVO did from other games. Books are full color, Beautiful artwork, similar sized or larger, and priced the same as Mongoose. Biggest advantage of all at the moment is that they are still releasing product....

There's probably a reason why I have so few BF:Ev models too.

I'd say SST and BF:EV rules are far easier to get a handle on than the AT-43 rules. The books are alright, but they really COULD reduce the number of pages by consolidating the variants on certain units, and clean up the organization so it's easier to use.

Yep.

And there's a really easy way to do large numbers of units (works great for those of the community that bought into the game based on the lack of skill/time to paint).

1> Prime 'em black
2> a solid color to the majority of the uniform
3> Paint flesh
4> Details if wished
5> Put on a table as if you were gaming. If they look good, BAM. you're done.

amen.

*shameless self pulg*

ends up like this:

Guess then I'd better start painting all the FOW and W40K stuff I have laying around that I had to have and was going to paint. I really need another game with unpainted minis...NOT. I can take the delays, but switching to paint your own really gets to me. (hell the pre-painted stuff is what kept my wife off my back as I spent $100s and $100s of greenbacks on another game system)

Game-on!

Dude...CHEAT! Use the primer and do as little as possible. If it lives up to 'Hey, this looks good at the distance I'm looking at on the game table', then it's perfect.

i cant paint anymore.. so no prepaint no game for me ..

when i say i cant paint i mean from a medical point not a skill point....

realy considering going over to AT-43 now....

Might be able to help you out there - I have a sudden need to get several armies together very quicklyu, and cannot devote the time to paint them all.

So, for World at War and Modern Combat both, I have switched to 1/72 scale. If you include some eBay trawls, you can put together very large armies, very cheaply, and they will have far more variety than we could ever have included in an official range. You'll finds the painting to be pretty good on them as well!

Seriously, I would like you to take a look at the new BF Evo: Modern Combat when it comes out (not long to wait, playtesting is quite advanced now), as I kinda had somone like you in mind when writing it - I think it will be just up your tree!
