If you are looking for expanded career event tables, might I recommend the D66 Compendium 2 by Jon Brazer Enterprises (my company). We have expanded event tables for all of the careers in the core book plus so much more.

The old decorations systems in Mercenary and High Guard were good examples - take a penalty on Survival for an MCUF or other award for valor, and gain a Purple Heart when you fail the Survival check (or on minimal Effect, maybe?). Decorations also had an impact on Advancement checks. I could see keeping that or maybe offering a choice of assignments or events. Possibly an extra Skill in some cases (the hero of Camp Desperation goes on a year-long war bond tour and gains Diplomacy 0).
Game effects - hmmm... One possibility is that they could help a character gain in Social Standing in some ways. In the past I’ve used Decorations as modifiers on social checks with fellow military veterans. Awards for scientific or professional achievement could work in a similar fashion. It could also help get the character noticed, which may or may not be a good thing.
Beyond that - i’m wary of giving them too much weight in terms of discrete concrete bonuses, i’d rather see them used to enable better role play and to help provide the GM more story-telling options (the engineer proudly displays his patent-award plaque in the drive room to remind the others of just how smart he really is....) But in some cases (or maybe just in some careers) a sufficiently high award (or a lot of awards) might add a DM+1 to a single benefit check, or maybe raise an equipment benefit one level. Getting an extra Contact/Rival/Ally is another thought; that would another benefit that provides some storytelling and role playing opportunities.

I like the idea of awards too, even if they don't have any official rules effect. Sure, you can have role-playing situationslike someone meeting a character and saying, "Are you the Kus? The only living Vargr from Extolay with an S-E-H? Your drinks are on the house, and we'll give you the Count's Suite for the price of a basic room."
This looks cool. But off topic, why does it show up as a Mongoose title? Is it on a sub-license similar to the TAS thing?dmccoy1693 said:

Spica Publishing has THREE expanded career books including D66 Event tables for all the base MGT1 careers - through the 3 books each MGT1 career Specialty is expanded into a full career of its own with additional specialties. Quite a few new careers are also added.

I looked at the preview for the Spica books and like what I see. Looks they havent published in a while, however. Any chance there will be an update for the 2nd edition?

I was one of the authors of those books. While Spica doesn't publish new material anymore, the books are perfectly useable as is and can be ported to 2nd Edition very easily. I think a few skills changed names slightly, but that's about it.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I find the differences between the two skill systems more distracting than others do (and I much prefer 2nd ed), but I can always tweak them to my own tastes. I’ll download the first Spica book and give it a shot.

There's the other tweak for the task check:
1st edition rolls for 8+ always, while adding/subtracting difficulty DMs. 2nd edition rolls for difficulty always, so no difficulty DMs to mess with.
