Why is the Nemesis an Armageddon Level Ship ?

Back to topic.

Is it not silly to make a ship which has fewer crew than Hull Damage and then give it Self-repair.

The Nemesis has the same problems as the first White Star.
You will see many Nemesis floating crewless in space after every combat.

so in a campaign, you never have to pay for repairs, can't really complain at that. OK, so you have to re-crew it i guess. But I don't think insta-clone technology is available for self replacing crewmen just yet.

So fine in a campaign you may get a small benefit but as an armaggeddon level ship the Nemesis just doesnt cut it

But you must first win the Battle before you can repair the ship if it´s on skeleton crew.
Or the Nemesis must have enough Crew (and time) to leave the Battelfield.
And Crits aren´t repaired with the Self-Repair, so you must spend the 5(or was it 1) RR per Crit. And a ship don´t get uncrippled if it was crippled so you must pay the additional 5 RR to uncripple the Ship.

Witht Self-Repair you don´t pay RR for Hull Damage Points, but for the rest you must pay RR.
The Ancient can´t get Crits and can´t become crippled so their Self-Reapir is more effective in a campaign.
(But therefore you don´t need to pay the double ammount of RR if you want to purchase the Nemesis or the White Stars.)

well neither does the Neroon or the Ka'Bin'Tak, but then that would take the thunder from the EA's complaints.

mind you, I did say when the stats appeare din S+P, that a bintak or an octurion could take one!

The Neroon I can agree with even tho it does have some significantly nice things, the Ka'Bintak on the other hand not sure id agree with that, shed loads of traits, 6 fighters, loads of weapons, loads of damage & crew fione it may not match 2 G'Vrahns but it cetrtainly matches a Nemesis or Warlock

the KaBinTak.
almost identical weapons loadout to a bintak, a couple of extra dice on the mag gun, but yes, command and carrier and fighters. Not really a big step up, unlike the Adira. . . the neroon likewise has some nice stuff, but as you agree, not an armageddon ship :-(

If the Neroon were hull 6 (something I would expect from a ship designed by the warrior caste) then it might qualify a bit better as an 'armageddon' ship. The weapons loadout is great (precise, SAP, triple damage beam out to 36 in all arcs? Tasty), the carrier capacity is great. The damage track isn't too hot, but then it's a minbari ship, so no suprise there.

Reading the Neroon's description though, it doesn't excell in any one area. Fair enough... but it doesn't excell all round, either. I'd far sooner take two Sharlins or Sharlin variants than one Neroon. 2 ships makes for 2 targets, and Sharlins are harder to hit.

I will give Nemesis vs. 2 Sharlins a go this weekend, though, to see if the Nemesis can do any harm at all.

And try one Nemesis against one Sharlin.
In the fight against the Octurion I only won, because the Octurion can´t reapair the "No Weapon my fire" Crit for 5 rounds (five times no 5+ rolled).
In the first 4 Rounds it reduce the Crew by ca. 60%.

Will do, although whoever I manage to rope into playing with me, it will be the blind leading the blind I think :)

Someone really needs to do a game demo in the portsmouth area...

I'd offer to come down & play ya but you really need someone that can get at least average dice rolls

Buy youre dices not in a game store one by one.
Buy them with a game.
My best dices I´ve got with the Gamebox from DP9 Heavy Gear.
These 4 yellow dices roll an average of 5 (but only if I roll them, if another roll them they roll an average of 3 or lower).
And if I´m the GM I roll allways two 6 with 3 dices (the other is 4 or 5).
My players hate me when I´m GM for Heavy Gear  .

It's funny, there are several instances of crew scores being significantly too low (where the damage score otherwise indicates a solid and balanced ship):

White Star Gunship
Nemesis
Neroon
Z'Takk
WSC-2 (switching the two scores around would be perfect)
Explorer

In all of these cases there seems little or no point (barring campaign repairs) to having such an excess of damage, and the lowly crew scores normally make the ship borderline or outright unviable as a fleet choice for the PL.

As regards the WSC-2, it is basically a retrofitted WS so the crew should be the same for both.

I'm not saying whether they're both too high or too low, just a reason whay the WSC-2 has the same crew as a WS

That in itself is fine, the WSC-2 is the one ship on that list that still works with its crew score - it would still be fine if its damage was 10 like the White Star, it just seems a little odd having the (relatively) huge damage score with a lower crew value and self repair.
