Why have the Gun Combat and Electronics skills been changed?

Deldarius

Mongoose
1. The December 10th update has Gun Combat with three specialties: Archaic, Energy and Slug.
Now the Dec 11th update has unbundled the specialties to: Slug Rifle, Slug Pistol, Shotgun, Energy Rifle and Energy Pistol. Archaic has been removed.

I thought the three specialties was to reduce skill bloat?

2. The December 10th update has Electronics with four specialties: Comms, Computers, Remote Ops and Sensors. With the Dec 11th update, Electronics is gone and the former specialties are now stand alone skills.

Having the specialties under Electronics makes sense, as they are interrelated.

There was no mention in the Revision history of any changes made to either of these skills. What gives? I thought the skills were pretty much done with?

I realize I have the choice of versions to play with...ultimately Dm's fiat is law.

I am just rather confused about the change. I am interested as to why the change was made and how the decision was reached to make said changes this late in the play test. These changes just occurred overnight.

Was there a rational reason for the changes or rather a mix up in compiling the files/pages for release? Inquiring minds want to know.

Where'd you get the 11th from? Oh, I see. You downloaded two editions of the game. Pick one to play from.

Shawn, if your comments do nothing to improve the potential release, please do not make them; either properly debate the merits of their inclusion or exclusion, or do not comment; this is about how to make the next Mongoose Traveller better; not how to make our own games better in spite of them.

When you read the books. You'll see that they are two different RPGs.

Two different RPG's? WTF???

Shawn, all I am inquiring about is clarification on whether these changes are legit and the reasons why OR are they an editing issue.

If I wish to invoke Rule Zero IMTU that is my business. This is about the play test rules, not my own.

I am not getting any deeper into this with you unless you have something deeper (constructive) to say. My original post stands.

You downloaded the 1st Edition Core Rulebook and the 2nd Edition Beta rulebook. I don't know what else to tell you. Check the copyright dates, not the upload dates.

Now that is some constructive input Shawn, thank you. That makes sense, a 1st ed vs 2ed issue. Good catch.

I had mistaken the oddly re released 1st ed:

Traveller Main Rulebook
travrulebooknewdt.pdf
Mongoose 2015-12-11 02:24:17

as an update to:

NEWTRAV_UPDATE_4_DEC.pdf
Mongoose 2015-12-10 05:35:04

It was the release date which had thrown me off. This solves that issue. Now it raises another...why re release the 1st ed?

And this is how good communications solves problems! Thank you Shawn, Thank you Tenacious-Techhunter.
