yes you use the same mini for the Whitestar and the Whitestar II
Whitestar gunship is indeed another ships...and pretty much a worthless one.
Priority level is huge as it radically changed the relative value of Whitestar II to Whitestars. If you a playing War, it's either two WS II or one WS II and two WS per point...great buy...if you are playing battle it is one WSII or two WS...go for the second option again.
Don't worry about fighters too much you easily out fighter him. Take the tinashi as at least it has some chance against the Apollo squadron, the G'quan will just wilt having none of the defense traits (id no dodge, stealth or interceptor)
If you have the models the pile of Vree scouts (the vaarka or vaarl stacks mentioned above) would be very worthwhile. If you play by the traditional gentlemans agreement about boresights the stack may prevent some of those big lasers from boresighting you. Not a situation I like but it is one most folks play under.
