Mongoose
I was wondering what most people use to base their ships. I have a couple of small fleets already mounted onto the plastic bases (pinned just for good measure) but I was wondering if people had tried the metal bases that Mongoose makes and whidh they prefer.

I make my bases out of nails and use a fender washer on the bottom to give it stability. I have used the plastic stands for smaller models.

I use the bplasti base but I use brass rod instead of the plastic stand, except for the largest and heavest models where I drill a 6mm hole into the bottom of the ship, cut the flight stand down to an inch or so and use that

Slice off the top of the stem, file it smooth and attach one small magnet to it. With the correct polarity, attach a similar magnet to the bottom of the miniature. I use 5mm-dia disc rare-earth magnets and it seems to work very nicely, no drilling or model-mutilating needed.

Metal bases for support... mostly because I manage to drop all the models I recently painted... and the plastic stands snap right off while the metal ones need to be bent back a bit.

I'm lazy - i don't glue the stands just use blue tac :) then take them out for transport - i also don't put things on the undersides of ships so they sit flat :)

Plastic for me due to availability and cost.

However, I replace the stems with brass hexagon tubing and place a fitting stem into the ship. That way they're strong and the ships can be taken off the bases when I pack them away. Also allows me to adjust the heights of the ships for balance and appearance.

I suppose metal would work just as well if not better... :?

And for fitting more Strikehawks into limited space
I do the same, but with square brass rods.

Burger,

You should try the Ninja Magic connectors. They make 45 and 90 degree bent connectors which would really allow you to pack your strikehawks in very tiny locations as the ships could be flown sideways.

I also use plastic soda bottle caps for fighter bases. They're about the same size as the hex fighter bases but have some height. I put three flights to a base for economy. They look better on the table too - not all circling the base but right on it. I'll post some pics when I get off my ass.
