Where are the "wheels" in Central Supply Catalogue

Diamondfist

Banded Mongoose
I went to my FLGS today, and looked through the Central Supply Catalogue, on which, I have had my eye, for some time. It certainly is very nice and has many useful things, but the back cover text caught my eye, and one part of the description went like this:

"Whether you are looking for a new set of wheels ..." (This is all I dare to quote).

So I looked through the book (carefully, since it was their only copy) and found nothing about vehicles, wheels, or whatever; not even a set of tires!
I looked through the table of contents, as much of the book as I could, and the index.

Although the equipment, weapons, armor and supplies (and those big honkin' guns) are very interesting, why does the back cover description (or should I say "teaser?") refer to something that doesn't appear to be in the book? Have I overlooked something? :?

If someone here who owns the book could tell me where these alleged "wheels" are (or even a tire), I will buy this book! If there are no vehicles in this book, however, I would like to know why that description was placed there, and thank you in advance to anyone here who takes the time to answer this. (I still might buy the book; I'm that crazy!)

Thank you!

You might want to look at Civilian Vehicles and Military Vehicles. Use the vehicles in either or both of those books, or design your own from the vehicle design mechanics in either book. :)

Get out your credits. Page 121 has several sets of wheels mounted to the carriages of artillery weapons. :) Looks like the cheapest one is the 9 pound field cannon at 2,600 credits. Buy it and you get two wheels at 1,300 credits each.

I never noticed the text on the back. I'm assuming CSC originally was to include vehicles, but perhaps it grew too large and they were all moved to Military and Civilian Vehicles along with the creation rules. Looks like someone forgot to remove the vehicle reference from the back before it went to the printers.

Thanks to alex_greene and Sturn for answering. I think I will buy CSC. Although I hadn't asked about Civilian Vehicles or Military Vehicles, the suggestion is appreciated, and I will take a look at those as well.

I liked your literal solution to my quest for wheels, Sturn. I hope no one swiped the credits from my account!

Thanks again for answering, alex_green and Sturn! I appreciate the help!

...Stuff like this and that surely would enhance moral within the corps
Of the other side - most definitely!

I love the, uh, seat on the second one! (A comment about things strapped between a frenchman's legs is just dying to come out...)

Or you could try something like this

  • FLATBIKE

  • FlatBikes™ are simple blocks of ePolymer and Smart Metal that store in minimum volume and yet autoerect into full frame Bicycles, primarily for emergencies, but also commonly found in camping situations.

There are two models available, a minimum volume and entirely manual model and a more sophisticated electrically powered moped variant.

The all-manual models are intended more as emergency survival gear, while the electrically driven mopeds are more popular with explorers.

    MANUAL FLATBIKE
Cost: 125 Cr. Mass: 4 kg. Maximum Cargo: 136 kg (inc. rider) Volume: 2.5 liters. Speed: 25 kph (maximum), 15 kph (cruise). Assembly/Disassembly Time: 4 minutes.

Two Manual FlatBike Blocks can be joined and the combined Blocks will form a Cargo Trike massing 8 kg, with a maximum cargo of 300 kg (including rider). Top speed is reduced to 18 kph and cruise to 10 kph.

Copyright 2010, but feel free to use the idea. Lots more where that came from.

Nice, clever and interesting ideas here! I loved the vehicle pictures from Somebody.

I did buy the CSC, and I am happy I did, despite the lack of vehicles. The Civilian Vehicles and Military Vehicles books look interesting too, I may decide to buy either one (or both).

In the Mercenary errata thread, they said there would be errata for CSC too, but I doubt they will add any vehicles; it would be nice if they did, though.

I know I'm still new here, so please forgive my ignorance; everyone here has been great. Who is Uncle Strephon and his Misguided Children? Are they a military organization, or team?

Uncle Strephon is "Emperor Strephon the first" the Emperor of the 3. Imperium in the OTU setting during IIRC 1080-1116

USMC = United States Marine Corps aka Uncle Sams Misguided Children

The 3I has a Marine Corps that in some versions (Classic, Gurps) is a thinly disguised clone of the above, sometimes jokinly refered to as "Uncle Strephons Misguided Children".

Depending on what version of Traveller you use the Marines are either stalward defenders of the Empire (Classic, Gurps) or ruthless suppressors and nuke-happy peacemakers resembling the Waffen-SS (Traveller-The New Era, MegaTraveller). I prefer the latter variants running a "rotten and self serving" Empire as shown in MT/TNE

Thank you, for taking the time to explain that, Somebody! I see a lot of references to Uncle Strephon in these forums, especially in the Traveller section. It'd be nice if those Marines would find a nice balance between stalwart defenders of the Empire and ruthless supressors/nuke-happy peacemakers! :D
