Where are all the pics of painted minis? SF

Despite the fact that the inspiration seems to be from the Enterprise TV series, you could try yellow trim on Terran Empire ships. For example, this Federa-, errr, Emperor class Dreadnought doesn't look too bad with some yellow.

*Sorry, pic removed at request of ADB*

[Whoops! NP guys, sorry. :D -GG]

A pic of a C7 in the black primer. It's tempting to just put a few highlights on it, matte-varnish it and call it good. :D But I won't.

I'm considering running a base black Klingon fleet, with the fluff being since it is the ESS's fleet/ships, they wanted a color scheme different than the navy.

The ESS don't have their own fleet or ships. ESS personnel are assigned to other military units in the Deep Space Fleet (Navy), Internal Security Force (police), Army, and Marines, as well as watching everyone else in the government and civilian life as well. Sort of a cross between the Gestapo and the Soviet political officer system.

I'm going for more of a Waffen SS type of idea.

Never have guessed from your handle :)

There's actually a slightly different ship symbol for Klingon secret police ships on the ADB site (even if it might just be for shuttles and the like in the SFU). The three "daggers" on the usual Klingon trefoil are red.

That's for Klingon ESS uniforms. The ESS are not the SS, they're the Gestapo. They have no special battalions or anything like that. Of course, you can paint your ships anyway you like, but it's not "canon".

@Iain, yeah I planned on using the red trefoil, which is why I wanted to go with a "non-canonical" ESS themed fleet

@ID, wouldn't be the first time I did something "not canon"

I'm on your side :)

The Star Fleet Universe is certainly big enough for your own ideas, and we would never let canon get in the way of a good idea for your fleets!

Here's a challenge for aspiring painters - let's see you match the "Doctor Severin's Star Fleet" color shemes on these beauties:

Impressive enough on the cheap-and-cheerful Irregular minis, but bound to be more impressive on the larger ACTA Fed figs.

There's got to be an alternate timeline where the Space Hippies took over the Federation, right?

So doing Pink Klinks :)

Some nice painting there Renny. I particularly like how you did the weld lines on the saucers. How did you get that effect? I have an idea how I'll paint mine up but I'm curious to know if you did something similar.

Call them "tropical" and maybe add one of those little umbrellas too?

Thanks :D. To paint the federation ships, I undercoated them all in a dark grey first. I then lightly painted the hulls with a light grey, being careful to leave the darker grey in the recessed areas, particularly on the saucer and the engines etc. This worked brilliantly on the frigate but I had to take more care on the larger ships as the paint tended to flow into the panel lines. I then went over the hulls with a fairly light dry brush of white which I laid down quite heavily on the saucer but less so over the rest of the hull. It worked pretty well but i'll try and refine the process when I get my fleet box. They look ok on the tabletop which is the aim of the game, although I won't be entering any painting contests any time soon.

Forgot to mention, I used a thin line of black ink to run around the bridge and command superstructure which really made the model look a lot better, just because it gave some definition to that area.

That's pretty much what I thought you did Renny. Almost the same as I plan to do with my Fed ships, when I eventually get them that is. I will most likely prime mine grey, undercoat with white then give the entire saucer a black ink wash and cover over that with two (at least) layers of drybrushing going from dark grey (maybe) > light grey > white, going progressively lighter with each layer. The rest of the ship should be fairly straightforward.
