What scale are you using for WaW?

I've built a fairly large 1/72 force for WaW, both Americans and Germans. I did this without thinking about what the majority of players would be using (silly me). What are you guys going to use? I'm also thinking about doing it in micro-armor (1/285?). I did so with the current BFE, simply for portability, and it works pretty good (on teeny tables, too!)

I am using 1/72 and 28mm (1/56). Yo will see them in the rulebook.

Do you really base 6mm minis individually?

IMO the smallest you can go is individually based 15mm (which is still a pain to handle...).

28mm troops and 1/56 to 1/48 Solido and Tamiya vehicles. I'll use 1/72 scale aircraft if they are in the rules.

2 bases per squad. roll as you normally would, but just place a marker for each wounded (a die works well if there are no special weapons on the base). Those little dice they use in all the pocket model games are perfect (and tiny). I have dozens of them laying around. Line of sight is just to the base, not the model.

It also allows you to use all the other fun stuff that regular models are really hard to find for. I've got 2 MV-22's to deploy my Marines from, plus lots of other goodies.

Aren't weapons with a blast or lethal zone too effecttive when doing so?
And how do you mark different equipped (armed) soldiers?

Well, blast area weapons aren't as precises as they would normally be, but they still work. As for knowing which weapons are which, I use GHQ models (www.ghqmodels.com). You can clearly tell which weapon is which. Here's the link to the US heavy weapons

It's not a perfect conversion, but it works well enough with a few minor alterations.

I was going to go 28mm, getting the BAM minis in army packs from great escape games, but my financial circumstances mean I'll be going for 15mm, and basing them on pennies.

Well I have a nice 28mm British force, Bolt Action Miniatures which are a very good range.

For the moment I have dug out all those old Airfix/Esci/Matchbox minis and model kits from when I was a lad as a fair few are already painted okay and assembled. I also have some 15mm (ish) lead minis I purchased at Colours years ago. Nice to finally finish them off and base them, until I finish off the 28mm Brits the powerful plastic German force will be the one I field.

Ok, I have thought of this for a variety of games. How do you base the infantry (base size and numbers)? And do you change the game scales any?

My group seems to be steering toward the 1/72 scale. Great availability for models from "any" army and they are all priced very reasonably. If you don't feel the need to paint your own there is always "Forces of Valor" for a superb range of 1/72 scale diecast vehicles and plastic infantry.

Can't wait to get the rules.

It is a very attractive scale for these reasons You can pick up an entire platoon for the cost of a single metal 'heroic' 28mm figure, and even pre-painted 'die-cast' vehicles are extremely well-priced.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm putting the finishing touches on 50 1:72 scale German infantry made by Italeri. Total cost = $7.50.

My best deal so far has been an entire platoon of British Commandos for a penny (sure there is an advert in there somewhere - "try and beat a platoon for a penny!").
