What minis are you going to use?

according to this, it was the illinois not the louisiana. Louisiana would have been BB-71, the last of the Montana's.

OK then, Illinois. Thanks. Get this though- I use to be able to rattle off the entire USN battleship inventory for all time, starting with hull BB-1 through BB-71, even so far as what the lead ship in each class was and the sisters with all of their armament. What a way to waste time, eh? But that was over 25 years ago heh, and I would have nailed the positions filled by BB-66 and BB-71  .

Very good Bus, most of it as per the link although can I pick you up on LOA is listed as 887 feet not 888 feet, better luck next time. :D

OK, I'm going to peek now at the link. FYI there are many references that attribute them with 888' as much as some saying 887'. It must be the difference when in warm tropical waters or cold arctic waters, lol.

From an episode of "Seinfeld": "Hey Elaine,Elaine!" "What?" "Do women know about shrinkage?

Has anyone seen these in real life before? The Furuta Warship Collection. They look good, but I am wondering if they relly are, and if they are only for static display... or if you can make them waterline models.

While I've never seen these particular ones, I have collected a lot of these Japanese collectable box sets, and generally they are excellent little models very well painted (much better than WizKids will ever achieve!). However, they are to a constant scale (there's another collection on Hobby Link Japan with all the ships together on a table), I'd bet against waterline (they're too simple, usually), and of limited availability (the other set are discontinued already). They're also usually a fairly soft plastic, but that's not a problem, and require minimal assembly (not a problem except touching up the paint where you have to seperate parts from the sprue).

I ahve quite a few of their 1/700 modern submarines and coastal forces craft for use with my rules. They are extremely well detailed - well worth getting hold of!

If the photo was taken of them the size they all appear to be, they are not to a consistant scale, and would probably not make good use for miniature gaming. On the small end of the scale is the sub, with the modern US "nuke" carrier on the large end. Both of these appear to have had their scale changed to be about the same overall size as the rest. On the plus side, the Bismarck, KGV and Rodney look about right.

Has anyone seen Hallmark 1:6000 ships IRL, they will be pretty small obviously but whats the quality like? The only pic I can find online is a PDF that says they are quite good, but the pictures are horribly blurry and pixellated.

As I own about 100 of the things I can answer yes, the quality is pretty good, their merchantmen even have masts and even with a ham fisted painter (that'd be me) they come out pretty well.

Cheap too.

I picked up two York class cruisers over the weekend, and they are nicely detailed. But IMHO, too damn small. I like to see what is going round the table, so I am buying GHQ. But that's down to my choice, I'm not criticising people for picking Hallmark :)

Hopefully the two "York" Class cruisers are actually different models (there were some noticeable differences between Yoirk and Exeter)

(I actually own two Exeters, one in "River Plate" scheme, the other in a "Java Sea" scheme, and two Bismarcks for similar reasons :) )

Unfortunately no, the model is sold as either one or the other. You get a slip of paper, telling you about both ships. I've ordered the George V class, which can be either the George or the PoW

Here some more GHQ mini's I got delivered this morning

Wargaming228.jpg

Painted mini-'York Class' HMS Exeter

Top Unpainted trio-'J' Class Destroyers

Middle right- 'U' Class Submarines

Bottom trio-'Tribal' Class Destroyers

To give you some idea of scale, the subs, are on 3cm x 1cm bases. Any finer scales, and you might as well use flash :P

What exactly are you using as your bases?

I dont actually base mine at all, after all theyre nice and flat bottomed already and you measure from a point so I figured, why bother? :P

(I intend to make a nice sea table sometime anyway :D)

But subs are a little fiddly without a base :?

True and it is not all that necesary for larger ships like battleships or carriers. But for smaller ones a strong breeze in the form of a rulebook droping down on the surface or so and over they go. And its easier to move them about. Also it gives you space to write names etc.. and it can look really good as above.
