Westermark Question

Using Venarium as a base point, how log before or after Aqulionia's invasion of Cimmeria the King Vilerus sanction the push into the Pictish Wilderness?

Have the Aquilonians been colonizing the Westermark for decades, and based on that success, decided to move into Cimmeria?

Did the two colonization efforts happen, more or less, at the same time?

Or is it that King Vilerus learned a lesson from Cimmeria and has pushed into the Pict lands using the wisdom gained from their defeat at Venarium?

Before Venarium? At the same time as Venarium? Or, after Venarium? That's the question.

In Beyond Black River (The creation and lost of Conanjora), Conan is in his late 30s, early 40s. which means that Venarium occurred roughly 20-25 years earlier when Conan was in his mid-teen.

The Westmark came after Venarium and the Cimmerian lesson was not learned when Aquilonia pushed into Pict land.

How long between the 2, I'm not sure though.

Ah, that's some good thinking. I haven't read the far in Conan's travels. I think the next story I need to read is A Witch Shall Be Born.

I've just started poking through Across Thunder River, and it seems that Conanjora is the "capital" of the province.

The Westmark...

Is it "Westmark" or "Westermark"? I've seen it both ways. The title on page 4 of Across Thunder River uses "Westermark" while the map on page 5 uses "Westemark".

I'm guessing that second one is a typo because the REH quote printed on page 4 of the same book uses "Westermark".

Westermark is the proper spelling.

Across Thunder river and Aquilonia: Flower of the West are both good RPG sourcebook for that info. GURP RPG too is pretty good.

Conajohara was the Newest of the Wertermark 'province' and had 2 fort city. The Eastern most one, Velitrium, was the capital and it still stands, making Conajohara a province of 1 city, now that the Picts reclaimed the rest of it. Unlike the others it was created by Numidedes.

The 3 or 4 other were part of the original colonization except the Southern most one which was created from the survivor of the Conajohara.

Wolves at the border is another good one to read.
