i reckon your right until you whack a longbow FCR on the bird, it turns it into a tank hunting daemon.

to the point it cannot be represented in game?
not convinced

yeah, sure it could be in the game but for how many pts??? i agree that a AH-64D with out the Longbow FCR would be great in evo! however with the FCR.....

The original reason Matt gave was that the Apache Longbow was too long ranged but it is no longer ranged than the Tiger which is in the game.

The Leclerc MBT also supposedly has the best target acquistion package of any MBT but that hasn't been factored into the game. I have no idea how many targets Tiger can track but I'm sure it's close, otherwise why would Britain have even considered buying the helicopter?

Hi guys,

Just as an aside, we have adjusted the rules for gunships a little, making the Apache viable once more. No solid plans for it yet but, if we were to add another helicopter to the list, it would likely be the Apache.

You know it makes sense!

WOHOO! Based on the different poses in the pics, the top and tail rotors move on the helos. I was afraid they were going to be fixed.

The Bell AH-1 SuperCobra is an twin-engine attack helicopter based on the US Army's AH-1 Cobra. The twin Cobra family includes the AH-1J SeaCobra, the AH-1T Improved SeaCobra, and the AH-1W SuperCobra. The AH-1W is the backbone of the United States Marine Corps's attack helicopter fleet, but will be replaced in service by the AH-1Z Viper upgrade in the next decade.

I supose that is why the USMC gets the Super Cobra and not the Apache. Just wonder if we are going to see the Viper?

Of course, my biggest problem with it is that its not an Apache (Hint).

ditto here, but apparently its too uber for the game, so therefore seeing as we will never get a mini, can someone from MGP post some stats so we can go "ohhh.... ahhh.... whoa" and proxy the Attack helo of doom! :D

There's also logistic problem. They are primarily used for behind the line armour hunting. They aren't exactly appropriate as tactical assets even in battallion sized games...Nevermind platoon scaled.

Okay I'm over it now... not really I just couldn't type it anymore. Looking forward to it MGP!

but how many infantry platoons get the kind of armour, air and artillery support our forces get in game anyway?

:? Umm, the helo MGP is selling us IS the AH-1Z, the "Viper" variant of the Super Cobra. :P

So I'd say we'll see it sometime in July.

You can check the official information on this bird at Bell Helicopter (The Manufacturer), at the Department of the Navy - Research, Development & Aquisition (the powers that be who procure it for the USMC's use), and at Army Technology (Another good source of information on this aircraft). 8)

There's slight scale difference :D Plus you could say it's part of assault by mechanised infantry regiment. Atleast they commonly appear together. Apaches meanwhile are hunting in rear tank columns.

Would make excelent scenario though. Multiple apaches, lots and lots of tanks(don't make exact points though as tanks would probably be just target practise...Real defenders would be AA units) and task for apaches to blast the column apart while defenders try to stop it.

Though probably requires more vechiles than most players have

Ran some numbers in work in a dull moment, depending on the points cost of aircraft here's an infantry platoon of EFTF for you

4 British Army Squads
4 SAS squads
1 Command Squad
9 Warriors
2 Challenger IIs

That gives a total of 640+900+75+1575+850=4040 points, so at 1 aircraft per 1000 points, you could field 4 Lynxes, maybe even 5 along with all that as 1 platoon.

That's more like infantry platoon, SAS platoon and half of Challenger platoon

And yeah. I'm pretty sure it will go to 5k if you field 5 choppers. I have feeling they won't be costing less than 200 which means 5=1000+ which pushes it to 5k easily.

Board size is probably starting to be problem for you soon if you keep building up your force...

It's almost as good as my thought experiment for the 750 point army for the doubles tourney

3 * SAS @ 225 points each
EFTF Command Squad for 75 points

Only 3 models visible at deployment, just to see the look on my opponents face, no SAS available on the day though
