Rank Titles - Citizen Career

Just trying to get all the sad little "--" out of rank titles in the core rulebook. I am trying to cover ALL the careers and when done I'll have a couple page supplement with the titles. I just think a bit of flavor here helps players envision what their career progression means in terms of their prominence and former responsibilities.

Citizen is another career well covered in previous releases and they had a rank structure. Here are my suggestions for rank titles for Corporate, Worker and Colonist Citizens where the inspiration came from Classic Traveller Supplement 4, the Spica Career Book 2 and the Cepheus Engine Core rulebook respectively. By inspiration it means I've tweaked it from what appeared a bit already.

Worker has a tech focus in the rulebook, I like not committing on that so that many careers can be covered. Colonist seems to be getting quite politically prominent at high ranks, maybe so much that it doesn't make sense they'd be an adventurer unless disgraced or the colony failed.

Anyway, looking for suggestions about changes.

I might have swapped Assistant and Apprentice round. Both are beginners ranks, however Apprentice includes part-time college training, which Assistant doesn't. So, Apprentice could be considered higher.
There again, Assistant and Apprentice are "ranks" from different career paths. Assistant is more Retail sector and Apprentice is more Technician/Engineering. So, in that sense, they are not particularly compatible.

Also, agree with you that Explorer doesn't exactly equate with the political ranks that you have chosen to use.

There could be a difference between organising exploration of "known territory" and exploring "uncharted territory", so maybe more ranks can be found by considering that.

Or, the ranks could be more abstract, like Beaver, Sherpa, Adventurer, Lone Star, Team Leader, etc. Merely a suggestion for something off the beaten track you might to look at.

Have you ever worked in a Call Center? Everyone has a manager or supervisor title because people always want to talk to a manager. The brand-new hire with no experience? Entry-level job? Customer Care Manager.

Nice to know that artificial intelligence programmes are going to get titles.
Not sure I understand that. Yeah, originally I thought about AI as a way to proceed after looking up as many previous incarnations of each career as possible (and had I done that this itch would have been scratched same day) but I decided that it would be more fun to brainstorm them up here.

No, I am more of a child of an earlier generation where it took a bit of time to earn seniority and the managers had paid their dues with years on the job. More of an IBM than a call center... ;)

I like your first point.

The second career is a problem though -- it's the Settler rather than an Explorer. I guess Cepheus went for more political based titles for the same reason I did -- it's hard to picture progress in being a settler but it is easier to picture civic growth and that would give increased responsibilities as a new settlement grows. My dissatisfaction comes from the ranks being really highly weighted to seniority. I'd like more levels on the "Citizen" side and less on the "Governer" side but my imagination is failing me here...

Not enough time thinking about what happened at the END of Oregon Trail growing up I guess...

Nowadays you get a below-entry-level position and are given the title of supervisor or manager. It is gaslighting/participation trophy kind of crap in the workplace, so I am not surprised that you are not familiar. :P

Then again, I play these games to get away from depressing real-life tidbits like that... ;)

The playbook is rather linear, so most likely to get superceded by an artificial intelligence programme that can guide you through the procedures, solutions, or decide that the customer can't be helped.
