WAHHHHH My Narn are broken...

It was rulesmastered a while back you CAN use short charge when you take Ship Breakers, you simply fire a short charge standard.

Obsidian has it right.

Even with short charging I didn't think you could switch e-mine types in the same battle between standard and ship-breaker.

Short Charge is one of the more confusing things about the e-mine variants. While you must declare your load out for Ship Breaker, Wide Burst or Ionic Burst at the start of the game and can not change that, any one of those may be "Short Charged" to fire a standard e-mine at 20" with half the AD. In the following round you can then fire the launcher with whatever type you had declared at the start of the game. You'd think you were "Short Charging" a Ship Breaker, but that isn't how it works. Don't want to argue the logic on this one since there are obvious holes, but that is how Matt has ruled on it numerous times.

So I declare that I am loading Ship Breakers at the start of the game:

Round 1 I fire my ship breakers.
Round 2 I can short-charge a standard mine of 1/2 normal dice.
Round 3 I can fire the ship breaker again.

Is that correct?

Nope. The Short Charge rules say something to the effect of "Short Charging an e-mine does not allow it to be fired in a round that it would not normally be allowed to due to Slow Loading" So while you can't do the sequence above, you can do the following

Round 1 I fire my ship breakers.
Round 2 Wait for Slow-loading
Round 3 I can short-charge a standard mine of 1/2 normal dice.
Round 4 I can fire the ship breaker again.

Like I said, the logic chain on this doesn't make sense since in theory it takes a round for the mine to be "charged" to full power which would mean the sequence in rounds 3 and 4 shouldn't be possible.

That's kinda counter intuitive but ok. Can you fire short-charged rounds repeatedly like this:

Round 1: Short Charge
Round 2: Short Charge
Round 3: Short Charge

or is there a no-fire round in there somewhere?

well 2 g'quans would cripple it. but as for ur vaarl statement how would you like to lsoe both ur vaarls in one turn of 2 e-mine tubes instead of 2 turns? thats what would happen with DD.

As opposed to losing 2 Patrol points of Nials, or Sky Serpents, or 2 Skirmish points of White Star fighters like you can do without DD anyway. Just because and idea does not work well with 1 particular ship against 1 particular enemy does not mean it should be discounted. Would you take a dedicated Fleet Carrier vessel, from any race, against a Narn fleet?

some people do in tourneys, i saw an avenger and a morshin at the last tourney. also DD e-mines would be good for hitting those hull 4 stealth 5 morshins as well.

Most tourney's are 5 point Raid, and you are unlikely to ses more then 1 G'Quan or Dag'kar (besides, people say this ship is mostly mince now) in a Narn tourney fleet so a Fleet Carrier is potentially a worthwhile risk. The G'Karith carries Pulsar Mines, not Energy Mines.

There were several of those, alas they have gone the way of the dodo.

Was there ever an official explanation for that? I recall logging in one day and like everything was gone including the entire RulesMasters forum.... Oddly enough all the old Polls seemed to survive whatever happenned. Page 18 on in this forum is nothing but polls. No way we had that many of them without some messages in between.

with the number of polls we've had it could be possible
but yes a lot of old posts have been deleted and maybe the polls are undeletable.

Mongoose probably ran some sort of program to delete the posts automatically and it didn't recognise posts with polls in the same way.
