Cosmic Mongoose
so then, it seems we have another "what if" alternate universe type of supplement on the way, but one thing I notice, is everyone sticks at least loosely to the show and it's races, just tweaking the history.

so what would YOU do to really re-write things, did the shadows win the last war, wiping out the Minbari? did Dinosaurs never die out, and are representing the EA? (come on, how cool would a t-rex flying a starfury be!!)

lets really mix it up and see what we can get!

I Tried (and failed) to get a T-Rex race into our Star Trek campaign instead of the Gorn 8)

Now of course there are a lot of Undefined League races and even older races boardering the Dilgar for instance - if they WERE a race of T-Rex like people (Advanced and intelligent) makes sense for the Dilgar not to attack them.

Or maybe the Raptors - yeah perhaps more likely to be intelligent tool users...............

Another fun idea I and few others played around with was if a refugee group from the 12 colonies was heading home to Earth and arrived in B5 spacepersued by the Cyclons - bit of a two way culture shock - esp since seems to be a lack of machine intelligence in B5 - I think there are AI's (isn't the B5 main computer a Old Centauri one?)

Or if the Shadows were wiped out last time round and Vorlons decided to purge the younger races of bad influences.............like the Centauri!

If the Dilgar had advanced slightly more slowly and not attacked Makrab or ground down the Brakiri homeworld first, they might have been able to hold on to their gains into the period of the show - a Dark Empire glowering at the other races and preparing to unleash Phase 2........

The Shadows are actually trying to get the races ready to fight a Third Space invasion - having recognised that the Vorlons are still under their control and prepring the way for them..............

The Minbari are infiltrated by the Shadows - maybe no Earth Minbari war....The Vorlons are the ones that sleep for centuries - wake up, give a big sigh and try to sort out the mess the Shadows make. Have the Shadow's have a Ambassador but are the opposite of the Vorlons - more likely to give you and your enemies tech and cool stuff and watch the fun.

ahhh so many ideas........................ :D

Or from LC's work the Dilgar refugees that were sent coreward, come back looking for revenge. Only a few decades of of course so they would need some heavy allies.

I think it comes down to how B5'ish you want to keep the history.
Ok a T-Rex flying a Starfury might be cool, but a Galaxy without Shadows and Vorlons manipulationg the Younger races for the next round of games takes away much taste from the B5 Universe.

Indeed a Crossover with BSG would be interesting. I think I read such a crossover sometime ago on B5Tech.org

Interesting you should say that.............I was considering something along that line as one of the plot for Darkness Rising: Aftermath - my next project :)

having amended my time line to fit in with LC's

Always wondered about that. I would think at least some refugees would have escaped via hyperspace somewhere, maybe to an unpopulated planet on the rim. Having them come back with some previously unknown Ancient-tech (non-Vorlon/non-Shadow) and the Dilgar propensity to cause massive damage would seem pretty cool.

Cheers, Gary

I once back in the B5wars days worked on a scenario (from ideas introduced by someone else admittedly) where the Dilgar fought the EA to a stand still so there was a big Dilgar empire still remaining. The EA was then more cautious when approaching the Minbari and so the Earth-Minbari war doesn't happen.

The Narn then ally with the Dilgar and stomp on the Centauri before ending up in a war against an Earth-Minbari alliance (with earth ships loaded with Minbari enhanced weapons and engines, and the Dilgar developing various devious methods of countering Minbari stealth).

I've been working on the stats for a Xul Hunter Ship. (The BIG badguys from Ian Douglas's Legacy and Inheritance trilogies) Give us about a week to do a bit more playtesting and then 'We Who Are' can invade the B5 universe.

Beware, one of their weapons has the potenial to crush a small ship down into a gravitational singularity, then smash it into another nearby ship.

From LC's novel some of the Dilgar were sent towards Tal Kona'Sha space, from AOG & Mongoose canon, a mid born race not as old as the anceints but far older than the young races.

Little is known of the Tal Kona'Sha, very isolatioist and rumoured to use automated / living ships augmented with hardware to heavily protect their space.

They sound as if they would have some interesting tech if the Dilgar could have managed to get hold of it.

Sounds fun :)

Of course The Culture could pop into B5's area and attempt to stop all this needless fighting by showing everyone really superior technology

hmmm, what if the minbari got invovled in teh dilar wars?

Shadows winning the last war, not so sure how that would be.

Wonder how things woudl be if there were no humans. Humans never evolved?

no evolution of humans means no Valen,

No Valen means no B4

No B4 means shadows win last war,

Probably means Minbari got their collective asses handed to them on shadow plates!!!

Possibly the Centauri become the main power in the galaxy?

Narn uprising quashed, so no Narn empire

Dilgar becoming a powerful race

Many non aligned races getting kicked and wiped out by Dilgar!

What if the Ikaran bio-warrior things actually worked and didn't genocide their own race.

Grunvald, with the destruction of the Minbari in the last Shadow War. There would be no more Minbari Protectorate (worlds of the surviving races that stood with the Minbari in that war). The agressive Garmak would not have been smashed back to their homeworld (they invaded Minbari space to show how strong they were), the Minbari left them their homewolrd which was soon subsumed by the Centauri.

The Orieni and Centauri could probably have both built bigger empires before smashing into each other (not being pinned in by Minbari space). The Wen'dan Horde could have invaded both of them.

The Centauri may have found the Sol system earlier and enslaved humanity (by not needing to keep such a massive fleet on the Minbari border).

The Dilgar could have run rampant through the League worlds. Drazi probably would not change much. Abbai would probably still be hiding behind their minefields from the Dilgar.

So who could the Vorlon be looking push to the front in the next Shadow War? The Abbai... Certainly the Shadows would have a whale of a time pushing the Centauri, Orieni, Drazi and Dilgar at each other.

What if the Narn had won the War of Retribution? Conquer the Centauri Republic and became an even more agressive Empire?

What if the Narn, not the Centauri who make first contact with Earth? Earth-Narn Alliance?

just werid ideas

The Narn would have enslaved earth. They enslaved scores of races in their expansion post-occupation and had early skirmishes with the Earth Alliance after humanity made it into space after contacting the Centauri.

I like the scenario where the Centauri enslaved earth, that'd make a very different Earth Alliance. Worth exploring.
