Vor: The Maelstrom

The first novel wrote for the game was really good and gave a good feel for the universe. The others were good, but that one just blew me away.

Vor the maelstrom : into the maelstrom by Loren L. Coleman

I don't suppose the novels are still in print?

What could I use for storm troopers.... GW marines, cap troopers.... what other companies have miniature that look a lot like em?

I don't like the wizards star wars game figures, and gw are too expensive.

I loved the fluff in the Vor books, Forcebooks and novels. However, several of the novels I thought blew chunks. Island of Power was the most boring waste of time and the Rescue really was disapointing. However, Into the Maelstrom and The Playback War were absolutely fantastic.

I really like the Neo-Soviets myself. I've got a bunch of them, and I've even expanded, using Copplestone Neo-Soviets. I've mixed in some of my Warzone models into my Union to fill in some of unsupported units. Also I have some mummy models stuck in a project box to be turned into more Pharons.

If you go to Gen Con, go to the Iron Wind Metals booth. Ask for the Vor models. Mike Noe didn't have them there last year but since their plant was so close he had someone run them over the next day for me.

Cool.

My book just arrived today!

I think I'll go with shard and then try to make my own dudes.

Golem are also cool (but I can only find three models...).

So, did they ever even do Ceru models? Or mashers?

Also, what of the Forcebooks?

I take it I have to Search Iron Winds and Ral Partha again? Or would Ebay be a better choice?

Ebay from time to time.

Golems, you technically need four different models - there are a few 'Home Grown' Forcelists drifting about.

Ceru, never - But Bob Olley is doing Scrunts on Jet Bikes soon!

Mashers, there are only a couple of models.

Force Books - Union, Neo Soviet, Pharon, Shard, Zykhee, and Growlers. They also released a Scenario Book called "Razorfangs Exodus".

I talked to Mike Noe of Iron Wind Metals last year at Gen Con. He said he'd love to do more Vor models, but not if they can't get the game up and moving with new material, such as new books. He's even had offers from fans to produce new material for the game. In order to do that he needs authorization from Mike Nelson, which he cannot get an answer from.

I Emailed Mike a few times whilst Fasa still existed, he was always prompt with responses and information. He's really gone to ground nowadays.

Scenario book anygood?

Its OK yes, worth a read.

Yes we are unlikely to get new models atm, but we can do conversions and post them online - to let people know VOR is still 'bubbling under'.

Mike Noe told me that the last he heard, Nelson was working for some newspaper in Philidelphia.

I still have three or four factory sealed boxes of VOR. I just gave three away lately to try and stir up some interest among the newbies in my area.

Last time I checked you could still get all of the available force books from Ral Partha Europe. :D :D

Yes you can, I'm on quite good terms with them too (I have a link from them to my VOR site)!

REALLY nice people!

First off, I must admit that I never had a chance to play the game, so this is only my own observations from reading the rules and some of the forcebooks. Now that I have that out of the way...

Personally, I was not very impressed with the rules. (braces for the expected pummeling) The minis are awesome, the background is some of the best that I have seen, but the rules seemed cumbersome. Using the whole action point (movement point?) system seems like a very slow system for any game involving a number of minis. Keep in mind before you try to rip me apart that this is just my opinion from looking at the game and reading the rules. That said, I have two basic boxed sets that I picked up cheap, a squad of Union power armor, three of the small Union drones (ADTs?), and the force books for Union, Neo Soviets, and Pharons.
