VaS OOB - New Aircraft Trait

This is possibly a better place to post my query from the VaS forum.

The aircraft trait now seems to provide no purpose other than to give anti-sub capabilities. My guess (because it's not terribly clear) is that these retain the old observation aircraft stats, however the 'clarification' at the front of the book says observation aircraft are no longer represented on the tabletop, so how do they actually get used? They're linked to a ship so must come from them, but the rest seems incomplete or contradictory.
Which stats are correct, and what does the reference to 'short' aircraft on p16 actually mean? No plane has 'short' in its descriptors. Also, does Aircraft: 3 still provide 3 of these revamped planes, whatever they are?

Anyone able to clarify? We've found it so unclear that we've had to ditch the aircraft trait for now as we seemingly have planes that aren't represented on the board but can attack subs, but are attached to a specific ship - but have no range stat clearly attributed to them.
Even if we're just being very dumb at my club a clarification would be nice.

I think they mean you still have the counter but its now a asw plane not a Os plane

And yes the fact you can have 4 in the air from bismark alone would be nicely clarified.

And yes a reply would be nice too, considering we all bought the supposedly clarified supplement :/
