Upgrading shadow ships from war to armagedion, a good thing?

Is it just me, or did the change from priority level war to armagedion do the shadow ship no favours. I got the shadow fleet box (4 shadow ships, 6 scout & fighters)before armagedion came out and now I'd hate to see how many ships I'd face in a game were I use the whole box, but the term "bucketloads" springs to mind. In fact I don't know anyone down here with enough ships to fight that battle. I have metal EA and Centauri fleets, each at 8 point battle, and I don't think thats enough. (admittidly I might have mucked up the maths on that one) Ok, the shadow ship was made meaner when it was upgraded, but I'm not sure that it is mean enough to face the horde of ships they now have to face and live. I'd be tempted to use my four ships as hunters when 2e comes out, but I heard somewhere that they are getting taken out of the shadow fleet.

from what we have eben told, the hunter goes to psi corps fleet, and then shadow ships will be at war and armageddon level, i dunno how they intend to split the same ship into two different priorities though

rolls for young shadow ship

1 - needs a nappy change, extra "projecile poo" attack in the next battle
2 - throws a tantrum, anything within movement distance is auotomatically destroyed
3- sees a puppy and runs after it, missing the next battle
4 - expelled from school for vapourising "littletommy"
5 - hits puberty, grows hair in unusual places and starts listening to "mood" music
6 - becomes a teeneager, ship is uselss to itself and society for the next 100 years

The shadow ship will have "young" and "ancient" variants.

not sure what happened to the Adults? Maybe Shadow young eat their parents spider like? and the surviving Ancients are single?

I think having a shadow ship at war and armageddon is an excellent idea. Just make them better. currently the shadow ship is feeble for it's points vallue. These dude's should slice large warships in two and take a massive amount of incoming without caring.....

That was my feeling as well. It would solve the problem of trying to balance them with younger race ships. The shadows and vorlons are ancients, their ships shouldn't be matched by those of the younger races.

Problem is they are so iconic and exciting it is a great shame to restrict their use in this way...........also their ships (or at least the Shadows) were matched and killed by Younger races - sometimes stupidily easily with telepaths.........didn't a Drazi ship kill a Vorlon one?

What if they were named "Shadow Cruiser" and "Shadow Dreadnought" is that more palatable for people?

I actually prefer the age idea - as the Cruiser etc designations I presume are Human?

That´s right. Their ships, as impressive as they are, have been destroyed more than once in the series by younger races. Apart from their strong ships, the Shadows´ superiority was based on surprise attacks, terror tactics, superior numbers and sound strategy.

While that "superior numbers" thing would be counter productive in a game like ACTA, the Shadow-specific rules encourage their player to bring the other factors to the gaming table to be competitive (which is not easy), and like this they are more than adiquate for being a playable fleet.

back in B5Wars there were indeed Shadow cruisers and Shadow Dreadnoughts, the difference was simply an age issue though so however you name them is all relative. Its worth noting that there were fleet action models for both Shadow Ship and Shadow Dreadnought eiter of which could work well in terms of scale for young shadow ships :)

Not sure if he knows what he is talking about though.

I would like to see the Shadows and Vorlons be playable as fleets, They will just need less ships on the board. Nowt wrong with that. But there should be a better range.

Why the hell have they moved the hunter? I have brought some for my Shadow fleet. Do they have any idea how annoyed I am right now? OD they care?

Answers on a postcard please.

Because it was never really a true Shadow ship and was in fact a EA Black Ops hybrid ship. On the bright side you have a cracking start to a Psi Corps fleet.
