Matthew,

Any plans for an openday so we can all come and play BF:Evo and look at the minis in person,
this may put some of our conserns to rest

there is a great idea, also means a day away from the kids for me :D

lookin at new pics, these are some things ive noticed.

1: i dont think mongoose picked the best box sets to take pics of, more a random box or a box at first glance.

2: i cant see all the MEA leaders to look that bad, id be suprised ! possably some worse and some better. i still wish to own the one in the pic due to his crazy tash :)

3: unlike the AT-43 minis mongoose have the eyes painted ! it hink if the eyes were not painted but faces were simply painted and washed problem would not exist. and the minis woudl look 10 times better.

4: ever seen a real gun, many ahve yes its a metalic metal but from 50 yards it doesnt look like a black stick drybrushed silver, it looks black

5: maybe they have over complicated the detail in the wrong areas. ie leave the eyes out or just do a black line, dont dry brush the guns, and spend that time making sure the weapons and cloth dont merg into one badly, and dont wory about doing the blue lenses as there often a purply gold anyway from range.

on reflection with new pics im glad to see an improvment one being the PLA leader now has a mouth, somthing we didnt see befor.

just tell them to leave the eyes of, if we whant eyes and feel we have the skill we can do them ourselves if it bothers us that much.

AT-43 has kept things relitivly simple, and there mini designs are designed for prouction painting, and that the big rule in life, keep it simple, simplicity in design is always more devine, the bigger the fuss the bigger the mess.

just my thoughts, but new pics are better, but price is still a tad to exspensive for me in the UK.

If not you may find you have a second job

The new images clearly show that the final products are several standard below than what was intended. Whether you find it acceptable is up to you. For me, I would possibly buy the rule book and wait for later waves.

Check again. Nothing changed. The PLA minis are simply presented in a new order. The guy with the better detail on the far right was brought to the center and the other was moved to the 4th slot on the back row.

I had time to sit and really look over the news pics (Somehow BOTH kids are napping at the same time!). The new pics do cast the minis in a much better light. THey are not the proofs, that's for sure. They do look good enough for the table though. THe final test will be when I actually see them, but I'm starting to get excited again.

I'm not, they look like crap. Sorry everyone, but they do. If they were $15 or $20 per box, they'd be worth it... but not at $30.

Still gonna buy some tanks, though.

On the bright side, Victory at Sea is getting very glowing comments from those who've purchased it.

Perhaps not coincidentally, VAS is a game that Mongoose has decided it will not make models for.

Perhaps they should stick to writing great rules!

Having a few of the forum members that are local to Mongoose HQ having a look at the units is a great idea and might go some distance in calming the waters. It does seem as though these were pushed through at the factory. One thing that I don't remember seeing anyone mention is the painting line on the bases where the dark edge comes up against the horizontal base surface. If the old and new pics are compared, it seems as though someone was in a hurry to apply the color. In the original the lines were much more carefully laid out. My interpretation here is then that rarely are factory production models going to have the appearance of a set of prototypes. I think Matt was fooled by the factory on this point, as I remember him saying the production should be similar to the preview items. For most of the customers buying BF:E minis, they might work fine. For the others well, weren't they going to touch them up anyway? So maybe just maybe, this might all become a 'meh' issue. Here's hoping.

Nope, not for me. I was going to get the BF Evo figs because of the realistic proportions and the great prepainted color schemes - I already have a ton of SST, UW, WHFB, etc figures that all need to be painted so the thought of the BF Evo stuff being painted to about my standard was great. Now, they're just totally not worth it. 8 crappily painted figures for $30? And the plastic is kinda bent on some of them? No way. This sucks, a huge letdown. I'm sure Matt & Mongoose are pretty mad too, but, honestly, it's not a 'meh' issue for me - it turned me away from being a definite buyer.

If, down the road, if the factory produces paintjobs that look like the prototypes, then I will buy, lots and lots. But not until then, unless the figures are dirt cheap. Honestly, they look like they should be in a 50 cent gumball prize machine thing.

)I'm bad. Seeing as my closest FLGS is over an hour away, I buy online. My boxes are around $23. That and I factor in time saved painting, done deal.

That's not to say people who don't like them don't have valid points, it's just that the quality, and price are good enoug for me. That and Matt's SACRED OATH (you did swear one, didn't you Matt? :P) that the models WILL improve.

Everone's gunna have to make the call for themselves.

After cooling my head last night I began regretting canceling most of my preorders. Maybe the much more inferior figures would grow on me, I thought, and the rule set does seem like fun. Then, I read that the price of infantry sets should be $40 US  . A possible future of five dollars a piece for one of those MEA ghouls? Not likely  . Cancelations stand.

Eh? The price is $29.95. Yes, it probably should be $40, if you follow the exchange rates. But it isn't.

But doesn't this quote imply the $40 price tag is coming when our prices "stabilise?"

You are looking at it the wrong way round - the US should be priced at $40. The trouble is, it will take a little while yet for prices in the US to stabilise to the current exchange rates (and, in some areas, they won't change at all).

Hopefully not from your point of view, because you want your currency to strengthen I assume, so if the prices go up in dollars that implies that the dollar will be steadily weak. I reckon once the currency srengthens again it'll be back to $1 = 70p or so.
