Unpublished ships already designed?

Mongoose
I'm looking at the book fleet lists, and their are some big omissions for the Italians, Japanese, Americans, French and British. I'm curious as to what was left out for space considerations but ALREADY exists (for publication in S&P or an expansion supplement) and what doesn't and us various forum people can get on and design.

Essentially the Italian fleet is missing the Soldati (sp?) DD and the Giulo Cesare BBs (which won't be that dissimilar to the Raid BB) and of course their pretty useless aircraft, the British are missing a lot of carriers and planes (no Albacores for example, which did replace the swordfish, no wellingtons for land aircraft etc), the Japanese, who never settled on a standard carrier are missing lots of their interesting carriers, etc etc.

If the rest of the Italian fleet is done and awaiting publication I'll leave it, but if it isn't I'll get working on it.
Anyone know? Rich Bax and the Salty Seadogs for example?

We do have plenty of stuff in the pipeline for the various fleets and are looking at expanding the fleet lists in future S&P articles. The Italians are somewhat limited at the moment but have enough ships for some interesting games.

BTW some of the Italian aircraft were far from useless, but like most of their it was rarely used effectively.

We just figured we (well, they... I test the rules, but the level of technical & historical knowledge is a bit beyond me..) have more material either already prepared or in preparation than has been put in the basic book...

We had lots of extra stuff that cold have gone in , including many of the things mentioned above (e.g. Wellingtons, Italian aircraft, losts more ships). The format used in the rules isn't all that space efficient, but the required standards and formatting required platform descriptions and pictures, and does look good :)

I don't disagree with that. However I would have been prepared to pay another fiver for another 24 pages of ships or so.
The next question is how much more material would be needed for Mongoose to produce a supplement of similar page count to VaS?

I can't afford for there to be any more sets of ship stats for a while! Hopefully it will be a couple months at least before a big supplement comes out! LOL!!

Ben, if you read last months S&P they talked about how they recieved countless suggestions(and indeed rules) from the playtesters prior to release, but there was only so much they could do, and they didn't want to clutter up the book with too many rules. They promised that many of these would be released via S&P or possibly in a supplement at a later date. Just look at this months. The second half of the Russian fleet and the 1st half of hte German Z-plan fleet.

Not sure we need a lot more RULES the simple ones we have look great

Plenty of scope for more SHIPS.

More Japs please, the IJN intend to rule the VAS oceans.....

If there were to be any additonal rules (as opposed to changes to existing rules) what would you like to see?

I think everyone wants more ships!

Really, if you were going to include so many French ships, it wouldn't have been unreasonable to toss in the Condottiere series for the Italians, or the missing BB.

The French scuttled a ton of their ships, or else saw them bombarded at Mers-El-Kebir. A few performed escort duties for the Allies. But jeesh... the Italians at least went out to sea to get blown out of the water. I gots a ton of minis I can't use with the rules. :D

Nope, Matt's an Ohio native.....dating a British girl :)

Just introduced her to my 2 boys last night, which means she's sticking around. Been REALLY paranoid about letting my dating life affect my guys.

Just doing my part to solidify IN relations. :D

I agree, I just got the book finally, overall is interesting and has much potential, but was really surprised at the number of missing ships for the big 3 (US, UK, IJN as well as Italians). I think French, Russians, and plan Z is cool, but would much rather get the list complete for the major Navies first. I mean, no Lexington/Saratoga, no Northampton's, no Wasp, No Independence's, no Wichita, no Detroit's, none of the Pearl Harbor BB survivor's except the Colorado class, no Glorious/Courageous, no Furious, no Eagle, no Hermes, no Repulse, no Arethusa's, no Soryu, Hiryu, Kaga, or Akagi, no Shoho, Zuiho, or Ryujo or Hosho, no Haguro's, no Fuso's, no Yamishiro's, the list just goes on. And much missing US/IK land based aircraft. Not to mention as stated above, no Italian Guilo Cesare class or any Italian light cruisers. Please get these ships out, in S&P first, but a second book please also. I would have happily paid for these in the first book, although at only 95 pages, I was shocked they were missing, especially for a $30 B&W book.

First, Surcouf! Great idea! Nothing like a sub with 2 - 8" guns!

But back to the topic, from what I have seen, anyone with a basic knowledge of WWII ships and a reference books........... like say, Jane's (etc.) couldn't you reverse engineer ship stats?

All small caliber DD guns appear basically the same, or have something similar already in print that is close (if not the same).

BB guns, at least for the Japanese, you have the stats on their 14", 16", and 18.1" guns, take a quick luck the 12" could not be that hard.

Aircraft....... againt, pretty simple stat sheets........ find and compare.

I will see about borrowing Fitzwalrus's set of the rules and see what I can do. It can not be all that hard.

For those interested in new ship stats check out the "Plan Red" thread...I've posted stats for the never built US Maine class BB, and RN N3 class BB and G3 class BC, as well as the never completed US South Dakota BB's and Lexington CC's.

Comments welcome and more designs enroute to fight the Anglo-American War of 1928!
